Car configurator.

Featured Replies

Using the Skoda Car Coinfigurator if I spec a new Octavia 2.0TSi with 16"wheels I get this "Tires 205/55 R16 91V (with restricted use)".

What does restricted use mean?

That sounds like the full size spare (correct tyre size), and is restricted in maximum speed to 50mph.

I did similar in purchasing my octy  1.5 tsi new last year , got the spare of configurator for £100 , which is a bargain , never liked the idea of driving around without a proper spare wheel , the inflation Gunk is a waste of time in my opinion .

This was when I selected 16 inch wheels as an option. You then have to select all weather tyres and then the message flashes up.

I can't get the same tyre size to appear but it's probably just because the standard 16" tyre is a 91V, the V meaning it's rated to 149mph but the 2.0TSI probably has a 155mph top speed (or at least more than 149mph), so the tyre strictly speaking isn't rated for that last 6mph. As such Skoda have a duty to inform you that the tyre will restrict certain usage of the car - ie. bombing along at 150mph+

That's a deal breaker then. If I can't belt along at 150+mph down my local Hampshire by-ways then I ain't buying the car.

Some insurance companies take a dim view of having Summer or All Season tyres fitted that have a lower speed rating than the car is capable of (even if illegally in the UK), and could use it as an "excuse" to invalidate insurance.
