1.4 tdi jerks while driving, fault codes

Featured Replies

Skoda Fabia, 1.4tdi 2010, greenline (european/swedish model if it makes any differens?

Bought it about one year ago. It ran fine then, the only issue was that when it was warm u had to run the starter motor 1-2 sec longer then whats normal. It started straight a way cold, (after using the glow plugs). Preveous owner claimed it had always been that way, a bit slow to start when warm. The car ran fine for about half a year, then I started to notice a tiny jerk every now and then while driving. It was so suttle I first thought it was imagination, but it appeared more and more often. Best way to describe it is to say that it felt like it had a small missfire on one cylinder. Eventually it happend several times on every trip, a lot of tiny jerks. The idikation lamp for the glowplugs started to blink, and eventually the engine lamp started to glow yellow. It got so bad that it eventually went in to some sort of "limp home mode" or something. I had a hard time getting the car up to 60 (100km/h) and it felt like i had no turbo pressure at all, just felt like an old diesel traktor. If I remember correctly the jerking had stopped by then, but I am not sure.

I cleared the fault codes with Elm 327 and Torque, and it ran like normal again (with the jerking back). I also belive the fuel consumption is about 20-30% higher then what it used to be.

After som resurch i have done the following to the car:
- checked for air leaks with starter spray
- changed the temprature sensor on the engine
- changed the MAF-sensor and new air filter
- changed the entire throttle body
- changed the turbo boost pressure sensor
- checked the injector loom to make sure the comnections to the injectors are snug
- visually looked for air leaks

The issue still remains. Jerking every now and then, sometimes on idle as well. The fault codes appear again after a while. I dont belive it miss fires beacuse now it rather feels like it runs better during the jerk, almost like thats how it is supposed to run, but it only last for half a sec or so. I also have a feeling that the engine runs a bit to long when i turn off the key, maby 1 sec or so. It dont mind, but i might be related?

The fault codes i get now:
- P0101 - Mass Air Flow Sensor Circuit Range/Performance problem
- P0651 - powertrain

Erlier i also got this code, but it doesent appear any more:
P0236 - Turbocharger Boost Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance

Any ideas? Would really appreciate any help

Is either the DPF or the EGR clogged?

Thanks for your reply! No indikation that dpf is clogged. I have considerd removing the EGR for inspection but no garage at the moment and freesing temperatures outside makes me hesitate. I will try to sort it out some how

Did you replace MAF with a genuine item?

Thanks again!

No, I orderd the chepest one i could find (new, not used/second hand) from "Auto Doc". I belive it was a brand called "STARK Automotive". Do U have experience from non original MAF not working correctly? The change of MAF made no change for better or worse in my case.

Problem solved! (I hope)

- Changed every vacuum hose I could find, no difference

- Changed the cam shaft position sensor, no difference

- Removed the egr (a few hours work) and noticed that the valve inside gets stuck i open/half open. After lot of solvent and scrubbing with tooth brusch the valve closes smoth and freely. I now experience a lot smother idle, no jerking and so far, no more fault codes. To bad i spent about 500 euros in parts and shipping befour i found the right solution wich was for free... Thanks "mrgf" for the ideas
