Wing mirror paint failure

Featured Replies

Hello, this is my first post - hopefully I'm doing it right.

I have a Superb III which is mostly as it's name says. I bought it from a Skoda dealership with 1 former, very low mileage owner, still under guarantee.

One of the wing mirrors seems to have a paint failure (photos attached) which has developed since I bought it.

During a recent service I asked the Skoda dealership (not the one that I bought it from) to give their opinion. They said it wasn't a guarantee issue as the paint wasn't factory. The paint everywhere else on the car and on the other wing mirror is perfect, so I'm wondering if it's a bad replacement job from before I bought it or if the factory paint can just fail like this.

The dealer from whom I bought it checked their records and said there's no record of the mirror having been replaced before I bought it (which could mean the previous owner just did it on the cheap without saying, I guess).

Anyone else had this?

The mirror itself also has some odd dirt on it which I think is below the surface of the glass as it won't polish out - hard to show in the photo but I've tried.

Is there a way to tell if the mirror/case is or is not factory/after market?

It's heated, motorised and has blind spot warning light, so I'm guessing expensive to sort, whatever the cause.

Thanks.

Looks like a pretty bad paint job.  It doesn't even look to be the same colour as the rest of the car.   Could have easily been done at the port as much as it could have been done by it's former keeper or supplying dealer.  Sadly whoever was to blame it's up to you and your wallet to sort it

It's just the wing mirror cap which needs sorting, so visit a reputable body shop who can quote you to strip and repaint or worst case you'll need to supply a new wing mirror cap for them to spray, e;g:

Would help to know where you are. I know a good sprayer that would do it for a reasonable price but do a great job. Every town has someone who can do it right and a few that will do a half arsed job. Maybe someone on here can point you in the right direction.

Thanks. The car's in Manchester right now, if you know anyone sensible about there? What should I expect to pay?

Thanks - doesn't sound so bad that.

Can’t help in Manchester area but regarding price I’d think around £80 -£100 max.

As already said... the door mirrors (not wing mirrors) don't match the colour of the car. What is the history? Did someone respray door mirrors?

Don't see how dirt can be under the glass.

You could swap it yourself although see comment below. How would a dealer know?

Blind spot is the keyword.... so not cheap to replace. The cap/cover on the door mirror might be all someone changed and colour is wrong and paint job poor.

It’s not dirt on mirror, it’s probably pitted. Have same problem with brand new Superb but on larger surfaces, started separate thread on that.
