hi all . i live near preston lancs. just retro fitted a 3 spoke steering wheel with paddles to my 2010 elegance estate. somewere when a friend has activated the paddles he has deacivated the rear wiper and washer? could anyone help. he admits hes lost..the vdcs he used i have have not seen before and is quite oil.. when we scan code its says rear wiper not installed. i just used it this morning on the way to him. all the othe buttons work great and stalk controls aswell just rear wiper.cheers bernie

Can you post a copy of the auto scan? It would also help if your friend upgraded to the latest version of VCDS as it is free on the Ross-Tech website.

Bernie came to me with his car and has just left. This is his autoscan. Unfortunately we couldn`t work out why the rear wiper isn't working even though the box was ticked in what we assumed was the relevant section. Bernie might be able to explain it better when he gets home. I didn't originally set up the new steering wheel.

weird one this according vcds the rear wiper is installed.it works when you select reverse but not on the stalk. as i hadnt save my block code we read ashfans block code off his car for steering control module code. as its the same model as mine exactly inc my old steering wheel

we then put that code in my car and the paddles stopped obviously but the rear wiper still doesnt work. code in my car say  steering  control module incorrect code. even though in effect its the std code. so on the way home wondered could it be a fuse maybe?. not checked yet.is the rear wiper washer on a joint fuse?.

checked fuse 39 wiper all ok checked tailgate for shutting properly ok..

@ashfan - did you check the coding of the steering controller at address 16 as it looks wrong to me.

we grabbed that from ashfans car as i had not made a note of my stock codes foolishly.

 

code 01044 came up as the only code control module incorrectly coded 

000--- intermitent

 

we  did have 00000131 as a code in there when the paddles worked

and also code 0001134 showed

so as of now with 0001831 we have no paddles but all the switches work. no auto lights on as i think this option was turned off on ashfans car and still no rear wiper or rear washers.

Just to point out, this is a forum and not whatsapp. It's easier to read if you make a single post rather than three one liners. There should be an edit button (not sure if it appears for non freedom members) so you can add to your post for a few minutes.

 

I don't have a car with the same module installed so I'm basing the advise on this screenshot:

 

Assuming you're still with ashfan, you should check that matches the coding helper that shows when you attempt to recode the steering module. None of this should effect auto headlights either.

 

You're going to need to make it much more clear what fault codes are shown and what does/doesn't work with each of the codes you've tried.

 

Based on the above screenshot, I'd guess at 0001832 to start.

sat and looked at the  image above ..on his system it was the same except the rear wiper option was not there?.

 

we went numbers

it gave options of pttt on the wiper stalk or not so we pick not,but this option was on the next page afterwards

No, as I explained to Bernie (rockabilly) my experience of vcds is solely from following instructions on this forum to do certain things to my car such as enabling hill hold, fitting a reversing camera etc. Without instruction I have no idea how to use vcds but I am more than willing to allow anybody to use it if they want.

Yes my auto lights work fine. I don't leave the switch in the auto position but switch to it when I  know I need lights. I don't need the car to tell me when to turn the lights on, I find it a bit too sensitive sometimes.
