Hi - From Volvo to Skoda (Superb?)

Featured Replies

Hello All,

Last week had diesel runaway (on my second engine on a Volvo V50) this time was a pretty scary experience as occurred at speed on the M1 in road works. So after a complete change and looking at Skodas. I've got a "huge" labradoodle and a 2 year old daughter. I work in the Automotive industry developing cars for a certain Japanese manufacturer and so have experienced quite a lot of brands and models.

I Was set on looking at Superb SE L Executive 2017 2.0l TDI DSG 150bhp on 19s(??!). If anyone has any top points to look out for or to be aware it would be greatly appreciated.

If there are known concern threads, I'm off to find these next!

Part of me thinks an Octavia estate may meet rear load requirements but just think the styling on the Superb is great. Its a looooong car though and the 2nd row is huge (for a just a 2 year old)

Anyway nice to be on here and any advice or direction to existing useful threads is gratefully received.

Thanks

Simon

Welcome Simon!  I can highly recommend the Superb and having had Octavias in the past (which are great cars by the way), the Superb is a real step up in terms of comfort, refinement and space.  Despite its size it doesn't feel particularly big to drive.  SEL with DSG is a great spec.  150 is more than enough power and in reality, there isn't a huge difference between it and the 190 for everyday use so I would stick to the 150.  19s can be a step too far for some due to a harsher ride unless you have DCC (dynamic chassis control) fitted.  They do look great of course.  I have 18s on mine and wouldn't be going any bigger.  There are known real stand out issues with the latest Superb.  Best thread to look at is https://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/299-skoda-superb-mk-iii/?_fromLogin=1

Good luck with your search

Hi and thanks for the information hope to go look at the vehicle tomorrow

Thanks for the link

I'm guessing that engine and DSG combination has been out for so long its pretty much bullet proof?

Do you know if any of the Skodas were recalled for the VAG emissions scandal? I'm wondering the best way to find out if its had all recalls etc done.

Also does anyone buy service packs from Skoda (after buying used), is that a thing!?

Thanks

So took the plunge and over the moon with this...

2016 SEL 2.0 TDI 190 M/T

Would have liked alcantara, sunroof and the more attractive alloys but its all fine.

Just ordered boot liner, rear bumper foil protector and 2 umbrellas that had been pinched!

Lookinf forward to catching up on all the tyre choice, update, known concern threads.

Welcome to the world of Skoda ownership. The Superb does look good, making me jealous in my 8 year old Octavia!

Comparing with the Volvo, how do you find the ride and road noise on the motorway, if you've driven that far yet?

Believe the 2.0 TDI 190 has the 6 speed wet DSG box which is apparently more reliable than the 7spd dry box fitted to smaller engines that has suffered a higher than average number of failures. Just make sure you get the gearbox oil changed at the necessary interval (believe its 40,000 miles.

2017 should be post-scandal; there is a checker on the Skoda site where you can enter the reg or VIN. On my mobile just now so a bit tricky to get the link but Google is your friend for that.

Well done, looks great.  New Superb have latest Diesel engines and up to date EU emissions etc

Yep really enjoying it. I work on economic and audio units for Nissan and I have no idea yet how the WiFi and hotspots work!!!?

budster, the Skoda is far quieter and smoother ride than the Volvo mainly suspension based abut also due to big soft leather seating!?! All in all it’s a lovely place  to be. And now I’ve worked out that the ACC isn’t limited to just 5mph increases and found the pull for 1mph, the world is truly my oyster!? It’s on a strange mix of uniroyal front tyres and hankook rears, so when they wear down i’ll Go get something more uniform.

The CarPlay really does work well and makes life so much easier. It would be nice if it connected on Bluetooth CarPlay but I guess this is a release on new models. I’m going digging soon to see if I can unlock some features too!!

Interesting. Maybe I should abandon looking at the new V60 to replace my Octavia and go for the Superb...

Do you find the leather slippy?

A warm welcome to the Forum !  Two year old daughters grow up quick and will be down the aisle in no time.  My youngest is 50 and eldest just turned 60.  Now you know I'm an oldie but still a bit of a petrol head.  Nice pictures too..

No problems with the leather, the seats are certainly not sports but fit well for a range of sizes with excellent adjustability. The new V60 is a very good looking car and HMI unit is impressive, just pi@@ed off with Volvo!! This is leagues ahead of the v50

Not so keen on having to use the touchscreen just to change the heating though...

What has caused you to be peed off with Volvo?
