New Fabia arrived.

Featured Replies

Well my new facelift Fabia is now in my possession and I'm happy with it.

It's an SE L dsg 110

I ordered it on the 21st September,it was built on 31st October and arrived at the dealership last week,so very quick in my opinion.

Things I like:

Adaptive cruise control is surprisingly good and feels a little weird never having had it before. Does it operate brake lights too?

Panoramic roof looks good. Just waiting for a sunny day now. (the rear blind is a bit of a stretch to pull back but no big deal).

Heated seats are fast to warm up and the top setting soon becomes too hot to tolerate. Waiting for a freezing cold day now.

I was concerned I wouldn't like the 1.0  three cylinder engine but it feels great and is as smooth and responsive as my last 1.2 dsg

Front parking sensors operate well giving me an extra bit of safety.

Things I'm not keen on:

The sat nav comes as standard but there's no voice control with it.It also takes up the only SD card slot in the car. I have all my music on an SD card so it's caused a minor irritation.

I may be sticking with Google maps on Android Auto for now.

Skoda connect isn't that impressive or am I missing something?

Drivers seat cushion seems slightly 'creaky'at low speed but I'll give it chance to settle in.

Still undecided about the larger grille,it seems a little disproportionate to the size of the car. Maybe I'll get used to it.

It's come with Kumho Ectsa HS51 tyres (215/45 R16 86H) which I've never heard of before.

I  really liked my last Fabia and I'm enjoying this one even more up to now.

Lucky Old You

Wife ordered a new SEL Fabia DSG with modest amount of extra in August this year.

After 6 phone calls in the last 3 weeks she has now been given a provisional build date of week 3 next year.

The dealer told her she should get it by March 2019 seven and a half months from order.

I was with her when she put in the order and the salesman assured her it wold be 10 - 12 weeks for delivery.

In January next year her old Fabia is due a service (big one) and MOT, an expense she did not want, would she have any claim against the dealer?

When we purchased our first Skoda a Yeti we got regular weekly updates, the last 3 new Skoda cars purchased the updates from the dealer has been appalling.

My Son has a new Nissan on order he gets regular weekly emails with its progress.

My wife is deeply disappointed with it all and is on the verge of cancelling the car.

One comment that I would make is, it sounds like your wife's car is currently going to be 4 months late, so I'd expect any valuation on that older car would remain, so no money lost there, also the cost of a major service will be roughly the same as the loss in value of the old car, so you win at one end and that winning is negated at the other end, so as you are saying this is mainly a money thing that is not really so for your wife, plus she will have a car which is new 4 months later in time.

Now if you are allowing that dealer to get away with dropping the trade in price, then you really do need to sort that out.

Quote my experience if you want,to give you a chance for compensation.

My car took 40 days from order to build and 22 days to get to the dealership.

I had a few extras but I don't think that would have put it to the front of the queue.

The creak is almost certainly caused by the seat backrest rubbing against the plastic of the vertical support part of the centre arm rest. This vertical part is a very tight fit between the two front seats. I cured the very annoying noise by pushing a piece of felt between the seat backrests and the vertical support.

You might have been stitched up by the dealer.

But to get the truth may need to visit rather than phone

Firstly ask for a copy (or file printout) of the order and check the date it was entered (some dealers are rumoured to sit on orders if they have already hit sales target for that month)

Only when you get this, then ask what date the factory accepted the order.

If there is a big delay it is possible the dealer had no quota left, and never could do the order in 3 months, (every dealer gets a quota, which depends upon their size, this is to ensure each gets a few of each model to sell), once the quota is used up, no guarantee they will get more until the next quarter.   Not ethical to say 10-12 weeks if you know order wont be within quota

It might not be the Dealers fault, occasionally a certain spec (and it could be an optional part) are delayed due to lack of parts.  But a dealer should not just sit on your cash and do nothing, they should be a bit more proactive and advise you that your spec is delayed, to be honest, if they don't then they don't really deserve your business.  Unless you have picked them for very good price, why stick with a lazy dealer.
