Question re current DSG transmission reliability, long term

Featured Replies

As the title, looking at a Karoq or Kodiaq for our next car, but have had a bellyful of the ill-fated and ill-behaved DQ200 in our current car.

And after reading the Tiguan reviews on another site, DSG transmission woes appear to all too common, as are the unhelpful, if not entirely unexpected, VW responses.

I could probably live with a manual, but would rather not, and I would also like to keep the car for umpteen years, which would probably favour the manual option.

Oops, only doing sub 10k per year but probably still favour a diesel.

With the wet clutch DSG's you certainly hope that now those with 7 speed are proved as trouble free as the 6 speed were if the Oil changes are done at 40,000 miles or 38,000 if that is what Audi are saying.

Obviously how good the 7 speed wet are after maybe 5 years will only be known after 5 years in the real world in Euro 6d temp WLTP Approved cars.

Surely VW Group have learned over the decades not to balls up the evolution of gearboxes.

Sadly they appear not to though with the 7 speed twin dry clutch DQ200's.

Vorsprung Durch Technik really meaning, get away with spin when you can...

When did VW/Skoda abandon the troublesome dry DQ200, or "go wet",

particularly in respect of the 1.6TDI engine, since a lot/most of the dealer stocked(in N.I.) DSG  Octavia's are, or appear to be,  1.6TDI engined.

I do not have any issue with the wee 1.6TDI engine.

Still doing my homework.

VW Group have not aborted the DQ200, Skoda build 2,200 a day for use in 48 different applications but that is to a max of 192 ps and 250Nm torque, or they were,

and still 2014-2018 versions are having issues with 'clutch slip' and some get new Clutch Packs.  See the Fabia Mk3 section of Briskoda.

If you want a 6 speed or 7 speed wet clutch DSG vehicle best be sure that is what you are getting.

So the wet 6 speed is the DQ250, and the wet 7 speed is the DQ500?

Yes?
