Is that picture taken from your Kodiaq?

Auxiliary heating isn't available as a factory option on UK-specification Kodiaq's...

The auxiliary heating function should not be confused with the 'Residual Heat Function' i.e. the REST button...

There may be a ceramic heating element fitted into the heating system, as there is with many Audi’s and VW diesel cars which help to heat up the air after a couple of minutes, whereas the engine would take much longer.

Automatic auxiliary heater*
In vehicles with diesel engines*, the auxiliary heater helps to warm the vehicle interior more quickly. The auxiliary heating activates automatically when the when the automatic auxiliary heater function is activated .

That was the way with my previous Ford Kuga. It didn't have an auxiliary heater as such, which you could pre set a timer to bring it on, but it did have a ceramic element (somewhere within the heating system) which would kick out heat within  a half mile or so after setting off. It seemed to be outside temperature dependant, but it certainly worked well. I'm fairly certain the Karoq has a similar system, as I could feel warm air coming out of the vents this morning after just a few minutes, even though the temperature gauge hadn't moved from its stop.

All VAG diesel cars, sold in Nordic countries, are supplied with additional electric heater with ceramic heating elements down in the vent pipes. Will blow warm air in few minutes after start.
