MK1 fabia vrs Vs MK2 Octavia vrs

Featured Replies

Hi. Just after some advice please. Put a deposit down on a Octavia vrs 08 pd170 but I have a bad feeling about it. Going to view tomorrow but as a back up I've found a MK1 fabia vrs, 05 with only 68k on the clock and it's been remapped as well. It's in absolutely stunning condition and it's 1k less than the Octavia. I'm in a pickle. Obvs it will be an easier decision once I've viewed them both but just how good are the fabias. I've never heard a bad word said about them

Bought my Fabia back in april with 154k on the clock. Gave it only one service and still feels tight as a drum. Although look out for worn bushes and anti roll bars on mk1's as I had to get them sorted out. But it's very cheap to get done. Other than that they run great with regular oil changes and are quick little cars, I haven't had any regrets! as for the Octy I have never driven one so I cant comment on that, although you'd probably get more power for the money if you bought a decent one I imagine (and more space). But if it's solely power you're after get a remapped 2.0 tsi octy. That's the best advice I can give. But its your call dude, both are great cars! :)

Cheers!

The MK 1 Fabia vrs has the great pd 130 engine and at only 68k miles is a rarity (check interior condition,  old MOT's / service stamps etc to check mileage)

The vrs  pd170 was one of the first Octavia engines to be fitted with a DPF and it is not a great implementation (DPF is too far away from the engine and the pd engine injection doesn't work well with DPF's)

Between the two you mentioned - I'd consider the MKI Fabia altough with any of them condition and service history is all. The pd engine must be serviced with the correct oil (anti foaming) or the camshaft wears out on the lobes than operate the unit injectors. Check for rust as well especially front sub frame, rear wheel arches/sills(especially the bit where rear wheel arch meets the rear of the sills - feel & tap from below) .

Some VAG diesel cars had extra foam soundproofing in the front wings that traps condensation and eventually rots through but I don't think the MKI Fabia ever had this but I'm not sure re the Octavia. Starting to see lots of VW's and Audis around with bad front wings/wheelarches. A friend of mine had his diesel Polo fixed for free (new wings and sprayed)  under the long body warranty

DON'T consider a MK II Fabia vrs with the 1.4 twincharge petrol engine!

The Mark One Fabia Vrs was the best ever Vrs.
