Felicia: one of the most common problems with the Felicia

One of the most common problems with the Felicia is the "my temp gauge doesn't go up whilst driving". Well this is the reason:

This is a pic of a new thermostat. Quite simple really. As the temp rises the spring retracts to allow that thermostat to open allowing hot coolant from engine into the radiator to be cooled. Pay attention to the lugs on circled with the green paint. Here we have a metal frame held in by a plastic surround and over time the plastic surround lugs break as shown in following pic.

As can be seen in this pic the lugs break causing the guts of the thermostat to break up allowing a constant flow of water to the radiator. Thus the coolant is permantly being cooled, causing not only the temp gauge to read low but the ECU into thinking engine is cold and injecting more fuel.

hi colin -

know the fealing - one of my lugs came off inside the thermostat housing , apparantly it is a common fault with them - but , where there`s a will there`s a way - drilled a small hole in the cross bar with a pilot hole in the housing and put a little self taping screw in and its been as good as gold for 2yrs now - if it go`s on the other side i`ll buy a new one - i know , its cheating - cant let skoda win all the time -

hope it helps

Hi,

'New' Felicia is suffering from same problem.

Is it an easy enough DIY repair?

How long would it take?

Thanks
