New 2009 tsi vRS owner

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

New member here. I pick up my white 2009 vRS tsi pre fl on saturday. 100k on the clock and already looking all over the forums including some scary reports of the early tsi engines!

I will probably have my local specialist look at the cam tensioner as a precaution or use an inspection mirror if i can do it on my drive.

Unfortunately only comes with the service book and no paper trail documentation although mainly dealer. Would they disclose any previous work to a new owner?

As its at 100k im on the fence anyway and it will probably need a de-coke at some point.

Ive already bought new NGK plugs, Mann filter, Castrol oil even though the garage says its just been serviced.

I owned a 2008 Golf R32 up until a week ago, which was getting expensive to run with parts failing. I was pleased to see the cabin filter is the same for the R32/Octavia as i have oem vw carbon one in the garage.

I know this car will need a little spending on it to get up to scratch.

Also im already looking at pre-fl honeycomb grill inserts if anyone has any recommendations?

Got myself a Columbus rns 510 (2013 ish) Nav off ebay to swap out the bolero unit.

Cheers

Tom

A 58 plate with a chain tensioner is a rare thing indeed. Hope you get it sorted. Updating the tensioner seems to be coming down in price all the time now the kit is available if it is what you decide to do.

Welcome

Does it have the FL steering wheel? Quite interesting the variations we have seen crop up just before the FL changeover.

Yes it will have the FL interior, engine and wing mirrors.

Only the front and rear end is PFL

Yes exactly that. A half breed and a massive pain in the arse for ordering spare parts.

Just on the train to pick it up.

Oh the joys. Drove 120 miles back home.

I have a misfire cylinder 2 causing the engine symbol to flash with the misfire and then the emc/eml to go on if you carry on accelerating.

Hopefully just a coil pack as ill swap two and three over and go for a drive. The cam inlet is at 4.8 degrees as well so will need a chain replacement at some point, but i was happy to take that one on the chin as general maintenance anyway.

Has a brilliant service history though with some age related bits all replaced recently.
