i have just bought a 2011 octavia 2.0 tdi with 89,000 is this alot for a diesel? how many more miles do the enhines generaly have in them if they a maintained well? and what is the life of the dpf like if driven on country lanes and a roads with about 12 miles journey each way every day cheers

Easily do 200k with regular oil changes + scheduled cambelt changes.

As long as its had a full service history 89k is nothing. Got two 1.9PD diesels, one has 219,000 and the other 260,000 miles, and both are good as new.

I just bought a 2009 Audi A3 1.9 with similar mileage. Full service history. For some reason, I was a little apprehensive prior to collection despite being aware of how good these engines are if properly maintained. I have owned numerous 1.9 lumps in the past. Now I have collected it, I realise my concerns were totally unfounded. It is fabulous.

The car is driven by my wife on 20 mile return journeys three times per week. Given the price of the car, I already factored in any possible dpf issues. It still provides massive bang for buck compared to buying new or nearly new.

Enjoy your car.

DPF life can vary massively on how the car has been used and if it's had any previous issues. The best way to get an idea is to measure the oil ash volume with VCDS or similar. It's worth checking the ECU software version at the same time to see if it's had the emissions fix applied.

That being said, 89k isn't much for a well maintained common rail 2.0l TDi. My '61 plate CR140 is on 158k and based on current figures, the DPF will last about 240k miles.

You might find that 12 miles in winter isn't enough to get the car to operating temperature which can impact the fuel economy.

My previous 1.9tdi had 325000 miles and ran like a swiss watch, I honestly believe it would have gone on to 500000 easily.

It was not even run in until 225000 miles, before that I would have to do one very small oil top up between services, after that the oil level never dropped.

Cant speak for DPF's but I believe that the 2.0l tdi is as bulletproof as its predecessor.

Electronics? - Now that may be a different story as the vehicle gets older but not IMO mileage related.

I agree with all above..

For the DPF, it's a painfull story, yes it varies depending oil quality used, if engine gets to correct warm temp  (avoid drives lower than 20 miles...especially in winter times), quality of diesel etc.,

Also they need to be kept cleaned the inlet, relevant sensors, and tubes.

Critical is also the tactic fuel filter changes.

this way i still have running an Opel Astra DTI with over 500k and still no fuel pump changed (just serviced once out of place)
