What do you think?

I'm picking up my black vRS on 10th April with cruise and obviously the metallic paint. Now the garage at Bridgewater have just contacted me to say that the car they have ready for me actually has the cd changer in it and would I be prepared to pay an extra

Yeah tell em you dont wanna pay for it, i'm sure they'll leave it in anyway - too much hassle to put another one back in.

They wont risk the sale for £100!!

Sounds like it will be pre-registered as well. Be careful as you'll loose that period from your warranty as well, kinda interesting approach to phrase it the way they have.

To quote his email....

Dear Steve, I have a Black vRS for you no problem with that, however I have a proposal for you. The car that I can get has the cruise control that you ordered also the CD Autochanger which is an extra

If they're putting your name then why can't they put your address???

I dont see why they cant put it in your name and address. No need for them to put it in the companies address whatsoever. Also if he's desperate for numbers he should let you have the car without taking an extra £100 off you.

I would reply to him stating that he may aswell put it straight in your name and address and that you wont pay any extra for the car as your paying enough already. As you said. you dont need a cd changer so why would you pay for one?

tell them you don't want as you don't. if they leave it in bonus if they don't its no loss :)

I've sent him this - I'll let you know what he comes up with.....

To be honest as long as my name is first on the registration, I'm not too fussed about their address being there - they can send it off when I collect the car.

I understand what you're saying , but I'd be paying

Hmm - the last paragraph on your reply shows you're willing to back down and pay the extra £100.

The dealers have a target to reach for each month, if they reach this target (set by the manufacturer) they get a bonus (on top of their profit) - this is thousands to them. Usually the target consists of a certain number of various models (eg 20 Fabias, 15 Octavias, etc) - this is an incentive for the dealers to sell more cars which is why they advertise so much and throw in free gifts.

I'd have replied to their email saying i wouldn't pay for the changer as it wasn't ordered but would have it as a gesture for the car being registered to their address :)

Ebay the CD changer :) Its what I would do given the situation. Sure, first I would just say why not leave it in there, but to not sour the relationship too much I would pay the £100, fit the MP3 player and Ebay a "brand new" Skoda Fabia CD changer on Ebay - and get nicely over £200. :)

Cheers - I see what you're all saying - I've always had Peugeots off a mate who works in Renwicks in Exeter, so I've never had to 'hard bargain' before and buy my own car on my own!!!.... but I do like the cunning fellow Devonians plan:thumbup:

 I have to ask though, why not use IML Newton Abbot or SMC Skoda? Why the trip to Bridgwater?

Just curious. :)

SMC Skoda in Exeter wanted 12380 then metallic paint and cruise on top and no discount! I'd been to Bridgewater with my mate who bought his there and was quoted a shade under twelve with the extras. SMC said they'd never be able to match that  and didn't know how Irvine could possibly give so much away...and he was a miserable b'stard as well!! So they got the :thumbdwn:

....oh and Newton Abbot smells....

IML there are pretty good. I think the staff there think me and the lady in parts are having an affair - I'm in there all the while getting bits & bobs. :D

Hmmm, difficult decision but I do honestly think the CD changer will help you sell the car more easily when that time comes so you may as well cough up the hundred quid. Only downside is the slight loss of warranty, but it's probably only going to be about a fortnight so not the end of the world when you consider the discount you got off the car.

I know the salesman you mean in SMC Exeter too. He lost a sale with me with his attitude and I also have been putting off going there for some parts I want too 'cos if he represents the dealership then it ain't a good one. Also got quoted 51 quid plus vat for a replacement pedal cover for the accelerator cover by there parts guy so god knows what part number he pulled off the computer?!!!!

Anyone know of a discount source of replacement pedal covers? :)

The set of three would appear to be "FAC 000 001" as part number. But as thats for three, not sure they can be split down individually. I would hope so. :)

Edit: FOund the real thing ;) 6Y2 721 647 "pad for accelerator pedal" RS

Top Man! Thanks Jase

May give IML a ring, see if they want my custom.

And IIRC it was indeed that blimmin' expensive ;)

He says this is because the company require as many registrations before the end of March and my car would be registered in my name c/o Irvine Skoda necessitating and address change when I collect it.

Must be a Tax fiddle, for the dealer, that one.

April is start of a new tax year, so selling it c/o Irvine Skoda means it is second hand in the eyes of the VAT bods.

Don't you go messing with my bird OK?

Re: The 100 quid CD changer: If it wasn't on your original spec list (which it wasn't as you have said you are going to fit an MP3 player) then you don't want it. Period. If Irvine wish to give you that particular vehicle to make their sales target then thats their call and you appreciate the freebie. You'll make sure you take the car there for it's service or buy parts from them should you wish to service it yourself.

Re: This salesman at SMC Exeter with the attitude problem; Have any of you guys reported him to the Managing Director of SMC? Please do, as a manager myself (not in the car industry) sometimes it is only through feedback we understand how well or badly a member of staff is performing. This is especially pertinent in a customer-facing industry such as retail.

The guy won't get sacked (UK employment laws make this near impossible) but it will help his boss recognise that he needs some training in the areas your feedback identifies deficiencies.

Edit: and leave Devonutopia's bird alone - hehehe

I managed to get an 06 red vrs from SMC for
