Dent in outer sil

Featured Replies

Hi,

I got dent (a big on in the outer sil). I was reversing and could not see a low brick wall. (Kicking myself).

Anyone know best way to fix this? (Photos attached.) Its about an inch I believe.

Its 2014 TDI Octavia UK

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Oops!  Top face of sill is clearly distorted upwards.  I think the normal procedure is to drill into the sides and use a puller of some sort whilst  simultaneously applying hammer taps on the top face. Then use filler to fair it back to original appearance.  I managed to put a longitudinal gouge in one of mine and a local independent body-shop did the repair it and re-spray for around  £150.

Thanks, Can I not open cover from underneath the car and hammer from inside?

Also I take this shouldn't effect an MOT? There are no sharp edges exposed.

Anyone got experience of this sort of thing?

Seems like it might be a way of avoiding drilling or welding while pulling out the dent.

I (very stupidly) nudged my neighbour’s door panel some time ago when reversing off my drive one morning. My light casing made contact so my car was fine but I did put a dent in their car. He got a suction tool off eBay for a few quid which popped it right out, so I think there’s some mileage in using them.

He wouldn’t take any money for it and said it was “just a few quid” so I guess it wasn’t as fancy as that one in the video. I didn’t see him use it either - I came home from work and he said he’d done it. The door panel looked fine.

It wasnt a big dent. My guess would be the suction things are good for certain types of dent but not great for others, depending on how bothered you are about a perfect finish.

The sill is a structural part, not a sheet metal part so a suction puller won’t work.

Does it looks like MOT failure issue (from looking at the pics) ?

Also a suction cup would need a smooth surface. No hope of creating a good seal against that mottled texture.
