Multi Fault dash indications

Featured Replies

Perhaps someone can help with advice on this problem with my 2013 Octavia 2 TDI vRS

I start the car and the airbag warning comes on.

I drive off and on come progressively ABS warning, Hand Brake on warning, Stability warnings, and others.

I continue on and the automatic door speed locks unlock and relock at random.

The Instrument Cluster has been tested and no fault is found?

All the Brake components,  cables and wiring all check out.

The car drives fine and with out other symptoms.

I am at my wits end and would appreciate advice from anyone who has had this problem.

Thanks

Has the battery ever been replaced? Any fault codes?

Thanks for the reply.

The battery is the original but it keep I maintenance charged when not used often.

Hundreds of fault codes but they do not seem to have any sense to them.

I'd probably try a new battery or at least have it properly tested. This generation of car can get a little weird if the battery started falling.

Otherwise, assuming your using VCDS, can you post a full autoscan?

If I see multiple, apparently unrelated faults, my first suspicion would be a bad earth (can make all kinds of strange things happen) or a fault with the CAN Bus wiring.

When my battery failed it started fine the previous day but next day, although it appeared to turn the engine over ok, the display lit up with just about every warning light flashing at me!.

The can-bus and computers in modern cars are more sensitive to reduced battery volts and stop working at a level where previous generations of cars would have started with a dimming of the lights.

Problem fixed totally with a new battery. The 6 year old battery I took out I am still using for other purposes which don't need cranking amps.

Had the same problem with my old diesel oct , driving back from devon one dark evening , ABS lights flashing  and a lot of the other ones , Battery was 7 years old and seemed to have enough volts on testing , changed to New battery and everything was sorted .Agree once they drop out , need replacing .

Started a thread with the exact same issue 2 days ago. Found similar posts but no one uploaded how they actually fixed it.

My fuses were good. I replaced the original battery but that didn't fix it (oh well) checked grounds and it was all good.

I ended up pulling the plastic side panel off on the side of the dash usually blocked by the closed drivers door. It was slightly damp in there due to a damaged seal somewhere along the line.

Took it for a run on the motorway with parts of the dash removed and bingo, fixed.

It's only been a day sorfar but the issue hasn't come back.

Another vote for the battery from me.

The Octavia is well documented for happily starting it's engine with a failing battery, at the same time as throwing up some strange electrical symptoms.

The OP says most of the indications light up after starting driving.

At that point the alternator/charger is working which charges the battery (in whichever condition it might be and if accepting charging - if not being sorted) so the running vehicle's current should be from that system sourced.

So does it make sense to think about battery fault?

I would suggest wiring/earth issues as it's also known headache..

If the battery isn't accepting charge, or isn't able to store enough charge, then even with the engine running, and the alternator working effectively you will still see issues.

It is surprising how much power that systems such as the power steering can consume.

I once had a Nissan Navara with a dead battery. The engine was running, I was driving on the motorway. I flashed my main beam to let a lorry pull in front of me and the engine stuttered. Pulled over for fuel an hour or so later (at 70mph), and when I came to restart the engine, nothing, absolutely nothing. There was no bringing that battery back to life.

Thank you all for your suggestions all helpful.

The Dash Cluster was tested and found no fault.

Finally checked the Can bus Gateway Module which had damp and PCB corrosion.

Problem solved.

Battery seems ok but is 5 years old and I will change this.

Thanks.
