Hardwire a dashcam with inline dual fuses?

Featured Replies

Hi, all,

I need to hardwire in my Mobius dashcam and battery discharge prevention device. In the Fabia there was enough room to use add-a-fuse doodabs. But as I understand it, that's not the case with the Citigo. Also, since it's a 2018 model, the end of the dash fusebox no longer exists?

So is there a way around this without drilling or destroying anything to get the fusebox cover back on? I don't want to solder or just wrap wire around.

Is there an add a fuse that is essentially the other way round? Plug a single end into the fuse position of choice - a wire comes off the back of that, which you can route somewhere, hopefully out a hole - then there's the dual socket to put the two fuses in – before finally having another wire which is joined to the device you're wiring in?

You need a piggyback fuse holder...

The original fuse would mount to the piggyback fuse holder next to the yellow one in my picture, and the black part would slot into the now vacant slot in your fuse box.

This is on my Kodiaq, but this guide might give you some useful pointers...

You need to make sure there is enough space between the top of the piggyback fuse holder and the lid of the fusebox...

@silver1011 The fuse box on the 2018 GitiGo  is now down by the accelerator peddle. If you remove the cover and fit a piggy back fuse the fuse box lid will not go back on as the Piggy back fuse sticks out too much

Thanks guys. There’s not enough room for piggyback fuses.

I’ve decided to not muck about with the fusebox this time round.

Simply using the 12v accessory socket with a usb plug and a long usb lead. Routed it over the side of the centre console, under the plastic up to the pedals, then under the steering wheel, up the doorside seal of the A pillar, then across where the pillar plastic stops and into the headlining. Ending up at the rear view mirror. At least 90% of the cable is hidden so it’s a suitable compromise.
