Both windows not working

Featured Replies

Hi

So basically the other day both of my front windows stopped working, so i took the fuses out and checked them (58 and 46) and they were fine so i put them back in and my windows started working again, about 24 hours later i tried using them again and they wouldn't work so i tried messing about with the fuses again but this time it just didn't work. i have measured the current going to the fuses so i know they are getting power and they are both reading 12.

I have also replaced the fuses with new ones just to rule out bad fuses but still no success

Using the key in the door to open and close the windows doesn't work either, any ideas?

these cars just seem to be problem after problem for me...

Have you checked the wires inside the rubber door bellows? They can break and make intermittent or no connection at all.

I had a yellow and green one snap which affected the central locking.

I’ve got to this exact problem right now. Fitted a working motor (correct part as the one in when I bought the car was wrong) and it works intermittently, like when messing with wiring or removing fuses as you.

@BenAP1221 Does your lock button work on your switch? Mine does so I’m not thinking it could be the switch. @TMB am I wrong?

Yep my lock and unlock buttons work, im guessing it would only be the switch if the passenger switch was working though, i think im going to check the door gaiter to make sure theres no loose connections and then get a new motor to try and sort it out.

Maybe your issue could be that the new motor has the same issue. I have been reading up about this issue and it seems that when the drivers window motor is at fault the convenience module will stop both sides from working and apparently when you remove the fuses it resets the unit which will allow the windows to work until you turn the car off.

I have also been reading on a Fabia vRS page on facebook that alot of people seem to have front window problems in the winter due to the damp.

Also could you tell me if your window motor was a 2 plug or a 3 plug please as i know different years tend to have different motors/part number for the motor and your fabia is the same year as mine.

My correct part was 6y2959802 and it’s a two pin. My car isn’t a 2005 model.

I really didn’t want to buy another motor but I guess that’s the only option if that’s the case. I’m going to get it plugged into vagcom and see what comes back, but it can wait till after Xmas.

The switches do fail but in my experience it's usually just on one side (of the driver's switch). Check carefully for broken wires in the door bellows, they can even be broken inside the insulation. Also remove the plugs and check for corrosion and apply some contact cleaner. Don't go the expensive route before ruling out this stuff.

I had the look out of the door holes and checked but no visible broken wires. I attempted to test the wires with a multimeter today also, but couldn’t for the life of me work out how to work the thing! The main power wires seemed ok.

If there is voltage going to the plug which powers the window motor then it should be the window motor, apparently the window motor is a common problem by the looks of things, especially in the winter.

I have seen a few posts in which people have said throughout the winter months the windows barely work and when summer comes around they work fine with no problems, My windows were fine, hadn't used them in ages due to bad weather and then i tried to and they just didn't work... weird and annoying!

Recently the car has been very damp as the rear door seals are rubbish and needed resealing which i have only just done today... maybe this could be why mine has started playing up, i will try using a dehumidifier to get some of the water out of the car as i have seen that this has made windows work for somebody else in the past, its just rather hard in this crap weather to do anything to the car.

A few things i have seen that have helped others out is:

Unplugging and plugging the black connector at the top inside the door gaiter

Disconnecting the battery for an hour to allow everything to reset itself

Sealing the rear doors to stop it getting damp

Drying out the inside of the car with a dehumidifier or using the fans or however
