VW needs to get a shift on with their electric charging points.

They are always so full of what the futures holds and they take so much longer getting there than others that just design, manufacture and sell cars.

Less spin and more of the new technology and products would be a start.

Now the pre-booking has opened there is a bit more (but not much) info available:

The pre-booking is currently ONLY for the 1st Editions (a 1st Edition pre-booking cannot be transferred to any other trim level).

The 1st Edition will also come with "2,000kWh of free fast charging for the first year of ownership”.

The 1st Editions will all have the 58 kWh battery.

The UK has been allocated 1,500 (out of the 30,000 1st Editions) these will all be the ID.3 1st Edition ‘Plus’ (the UK is not getting the top and bottom trim levels on the 1st Editions).

All versions of the car should come with the ability to charge at up to 100-125kW, giving around 162 miles of range in 30 minutes.

Is that defo under £34k?

Well no prices are firm but Jürgen Stackmann ("Member of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen brand responsible for Sales, Marketing and After-Sales,”) said they would be under €40K.

You also still have the £3,500 PICG to come off this price.

Worth noting the quoted range is based on optimistic WLTP, it would be interesting to see what the EPA rating will be. I find EPA rating to be more realistic and achievable.

The spec looks very good. Now all eyes are on the price.

But the lack of Ionity chargers in UK means, I think, needs to be at least 1/3 cheaper than equivalent Model 3, or have 1/3 more range than similarly priced Model 3. After all, at 200+ miles, I'd be looking to replace my long range car with something like this. This means reliable network of 100+kW chargers is needed.

If the UK has left the EU then there might well be 10% car duty on car imports, even EVs, and then the VAT on top of that so the currency change from Euros to GBP at 1.15 or so cannot be relied on so potentially translating the Euro figure in to pound ie less the £40k should be closer to the mark.

RHD versions as well are sometime loaded with a few percent uplift as they only represent 10 or 20 % of the volume production compared to LHD sales.

125kW is all well and good, if there are chargers available. There's currently 1 Ionity and 1 FastNed operational charging site in UK. All the rest are 50kW chargers from as early as 2012, funded by Nissan back then.

VW really need to fund more 125kW or faster chargers before they can make the claim. Before Tesla Model 3 arrival in UK, most Tesla sites already have Model 3 CCS plugs.

Yes they are being rolled out as we speak

Now in English

I assume the display of the ID3 will be pretty similar to the Seat El Born.

The description of the video's with the covered dash from the ID3 match with the dash on the El Born.

Since they share the same VAG plaform, you might see some details on the other VAG brands.

ID3 = Seat El Born

Crozz = Skoda Vizion IV (Not much known yet, but the battery/engine power and so on seems to match)

As for the El Born: See this video...

Also, they mention Wireless Carplay (I like that)

I hope to receive an ID3 next year (July I assume) as company car.

As for chargers: For me that won't be an issue, since we have already a enormous amount of chargers in our tiny country. (I think a 50kW charger can be found anywhere within 50km / 35 miles), and also there are a lot of 175 (and higher) installed / beeing installed.

Also, when redesigning the electrical infrastructure at our office, I already included cabling and so on for 4 11kW chargers on our parking place (we already have a e-Golf), so I can charge at the office for free.

Kinloch Hourn? Hint, it's the longest dead end in Europe at about 28 miles from the nearest through road and 33 from the nearest place there even might be a public charger. Oh and most of the route is single track with stop-start requirements.
