Can you remove the sat nav GPS fin?

Featured Replies

Hi, I've just got an Octavia Estate, downsizing from a 4x4 as I have sold my boat and we no longer tow a horsebox either. But I still paddleboard and surf. So imagine my surprise (and dissapointment) when I load my 10ft board on to the roof with a plan to head for the surf and it won't sit on the cross bars because of the stupid sat nav antenna. I didn't see that coming, it never occured to be at all before I bought the car. Anyway, I'd have a hard job rejecting the car because of the sat nav :) and its a nice car anyway, so I wondered if its removable? I can't find anything on the internet about it being removable and I don't want to pull it just in case it breaks, but I'm hoping it can be removed for things like a car wash or roof rack loads.

Any ideas?

thanks

Nick

Wouldn’t it be easier to get a roof rack with more clearance? Or am I misunderstanding something? The mk3 antenna is only a few cm high.

your best bet is to find a way to higher your board up to clear the GPS antenna

It can be removed, but there’ll be a large hole in the roof you’ll need to fill and you’ll need to find somewhere else to put it if you are going to do it. Seems a no brainer just to find another roof rack.

I’m no rocket scientist, but I support this suggestion over removing the antenna.

Fair enough. I didn't know if it was meant to be removable like some are for when you take your car to the car wash. If it's fixed, then I'll just have to buy a kayak rack or something to load them on their side instead.

Thanks!

As mentioned in this thread, give the Roofbox Company a call, they may be able to help
