Fitment of dash cam problem

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

Just had Halfords fit a dash cam to my 2010 Octavia diesel.

They did a rapid and thorough job, but when I started up and drove off the warning lamp for the passenger side air bag went off, and then came back on again immediately>

Checked, and switch for its isolation had not been disturbed, but was cycled anyway.

Technician double checked he had not disturbed wiring, and had not used that fuse.  Rechecked his work.  His supervisor suggested that they had similar troubles with some BMWs when they had swopped batteries, and the trouble sorted itself out after a few hours of driving.  Sounds unlikely to me, plus the battery was not isolated.

They have agreed to send it for full diagnostics if it doesn't sort itself out in a couple of days.

Any thoughts or similar experiences?

Airbag light ‘faults’ will not clear by themselves, it needs VCDS or similar diagnostic equipment to clear the light.

if they have moved the seats about  the air bag wiring underneath  can become disturbed and this can set a fault off - but as said above these will need clearing.

sounds like a typical Halfords job unfortunately

UPDATE

as I said, seat not moved when dash cam was installed, but I double checked.

I ran it around for a couple of days, and took it back today.  Manager looked at problem, agreed it was an MOT failure, and asked if technican had removed panel  on other side of facia to fuses, which they had.  (it gives access to rear of airbag isolation switch).  There was no obvious damage.
Went to his car, for his personal Carista OBD reader, fitted it, declared the app said there had been an instrument panel fault detected, and cancelled it with the app.   Problem apparently cured.

That manager is wrong in respect to an MOT failure, The PASSENGER AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT is NOT a fail, as  that airbag can be switched off in case you fit a child in the front, only the main drivers  airbag light in the main instrument  cluster is a fail.

I had a similar issue when fitting a dash cam.

I managed to clear the fault code myself using an ODB2 reader and some software for my smartphone.

The ODB2 reader i purchased (cost was £8.49) was this one:  https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0751HW65B/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The smartphone app (which is free) was this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bluetooth.vagerasedtcall&hl=en_GB

Happy Days!
