DSG from reverse to park

Featured Replies

Hiya. This might be a stupid question but we have noticed something when we reverse on to our driveway. When we have. finished reversing the car engine stops ,then we move the lever to park whilst going through drive the engine starts back up again. Is this a common thing or is it because we have to change gears more quickly?

Is this part of the stop start sequence, engine stops as you have depressed the brake firmly. From the manual:

Quote

If the system determine that the engine is not needed when the vehicle stops or is at a standstill (e.g. at the traffic lights), it turns off the engine and starts it again when moving off.

Try turning stop/start off and see if that makes a difference.

its the active start-stop causing that behavior.

as a result some people actually forget to turn the car off after putting it in park, because the engine has already (while in reverse) been cut by start-stop!!

Which is why you get a loud warning if you open the door with the ignition still on. Ask me how I know..

You just need to depress the brake a little less. Enough to stop the car but not enough for the car to think you're not going anywhere.

Not sure if the stop/start is less aggressive if you've got hold assist or whatever they call it off.

Surely when you go from reverse to park, you don’t normally go through drive?

My grandson does. While the car is parked. With the engine off. And making "vroom, vroom" noises. He's four.
