Fuel injector no 2 has died: does anyone have experience with VDO parts?

Featured Replies

Hello

Mk 2 Octavia 1.6 TDI estate. Now showing <75000 miles. Owned for about 5 years when 28000 m on the clock.  Recent cambelt change.  Not had "the Fix".

Driving down the M20 yesterday when experienced sudden loss of power and glow plug indicator started flashing.  Pulled over to hard shoulder and consulted the manual to discover I could continue in limp mode.  Limped off the motorway to the next junction and awaited RAC.  Diagnosed as a failed No 2 injector.  Car in local garage now awaiting repair.  RAC told me a new VAG injector would be ~£485 !!  Naturally I had a look around to see what else is out there and,,,

resulted from my search (at 4am last night, clearly the bill was bugging me ;)).
Questions to my learned friends:
1 Is this the  correct part for my car?
2 Does anyone have any experience of this manufacturer.  Would anyone recommend not going with the Bosch VAG replacement?
3 If one injector has failed, should I expect the other 3 to follow suit shortly?  I am a tree surgeon (in my spare time), NHS full-time and was intending to go for a 4x4 pickup in April.  Would it now be sensible to make that move sooner rather than later?
4 Taking the kids skiing to France in Feb but I could borrow another (petrol) car: a Toyota Avensis (1.8) which is older, similar mileage, hideous to drive but bigger inside.  Thoughts?

Many thanks in advance
Andrew

My 1.6TDI did the same on Christmas Eve. When reopening this week my local garage think that the problem is with Skoda's software, not the injector or its circuit. They say that only Škoda dealers can re-program this aspect. The engine has only done 24000 miles. Unfortunately it's 100 miles to the nearest Škoda (or other VAG) dealer.  Can I travel that far in limp mode without ruining something?  (And that's assuming the car can climb up the Rest & Be Thankful).
