Octavia SE 2.0TDI DSG

Featured Replies

Was there ever a Octavia SE 2.0TDI DSG? Will there be one again?

Probably not. You have to go up to SEL spec to get a 2.0.

A slight digression; I ordered my 1.5TSI SEL in August last year, annoyingly a few weeks later the added the 2.0TSI to the SEL which I would have definitely gone with.

I n October 2013 I bought a new Octavia MK3 SE 2.OTDi  manual but I can't remember whether you could order the DSG gearbox with se TRIM. IN 2015 bought a used VRS TDi DSG for £20,500 with just 7,000 miles on the clock but ironically didn't like the DSG gearbox. So in 2016 this was replaced by a new Superb with the 1.4Tsi manual in se TRIM.

Yes they did sell a 2.0 TDi SE DSG, there are 10 for sale on AutoTrader now :) As for whether they’ll be another, couldn’t say.

I'll wait for a good offer on a new SEL 2.0TDI DSG then!

There seemed to be some very good offers indeed on the SEL 1.6TDI DSG in December, of around 33% off list price when you included the PCP deposit contributions.

Dont do it, its missing independent rear suspension.

?

Were the 1.6 TDI DSG's on offer ones only available to be First Registered after August because of Derogation Rules allowing non WLTP Approved cars.

or are these WLTP Approved cars with SCR. (Adblue) ?

I don't think it was Adblue - maybe that's why they were going so cheap!

Does the current 2.0 TDI need to be adblue?

toni8b - does the 2.0TDI have independent rear suspension?

2.0 TDi 150 has torsion bar rear suspension. The vRS 2.0 TDi 184 has irs.

Tends to be top of the range Octavia's that get IRS so Scout 184 TDi and probably the L & K model as that is deemed the most comfortable and best equipped model.

Would it be so bad to not have independent rear suspension? I'm mainly concerned about comfort when on the motorway for hours. Off the motorway, I don't care so much.

IRS is designed primarily for comfort but major benefit is also added bonus of better handling as the torsion beam moves as one and can throw the car offline when hitting a bump mid-corner leading to a Brown Trouser moment. One of the major reasons VW gave the Golf IRS to match the more comfortable and better handling IRS Ford Focus.

L&K doesn’t have it either if it’s a 150 TDi. Only engines above 151 bhp or AWD have the IRS.

If you are going for 17 inch or smaller wheels then you are good. 18’s are firm and jiggly on the torsion beam IMO.

Agree my 2013 Torsion beam 2.0TDi SE had 16"alloys and was very comfy with the 205/55R16 tyres. Became a proper sleeper after AmD remap took it from 147bhp (rolling road figure) to 186bhp raising the top speed from 135mph to 150mph.

I know. Next time I will work harder and buy a Superb.

For comfort across all Mk3's nothing beats 16" wheels.

Don't believe anyone with 19" wheels and sports suspension (IRS or not) saying otherwise. ;)

The poorest is the L&K with 18's and torsion beam. Avoid if comfort is a priority.

Haha, or a better brand ;)

I've also got torsion beam with my Elegance trim, and 18inch wheels, 40 side profile tyres. I have found fitting all-season tyres (Michelin Crossclimate+) on it made the ride comfort a lot more bearable than summer performance tyres it had. But it still doesn't beat my Leaf with 17inch tyres and 50 side profile.

Having two cars mean I have the ability to choose the best one for the journey. The electric Leaf gets used for local pot-hole filled short trips. The Octy with all-season tyres is to be used during near-zero degree days and when snowing, plus long motorway journeys. Luckily on the motorway, 18inch and torsion beam combo seems okay.

I put Michelin CrossClimate+ on my Fabia. I found they were good in the wet too and with aquaplaning. On a recent very heavy downfall everyone kept to the middle lane, I was happily ploughing through puddles in the fast lane going a normal motorway speed. Did you find that or have the CrossClimates just given me a false sense of security?

It's an interesting combination of cars you use. Is the Octy good for motorway journey's or would you feel it'd be better to have a more comfortable car like the Superb. (I'm looking at Octy and Superb but edging towards Octavia because of the slight difference in MPG - every little helps,

^^^ LOL,

i see crazies that do that all the time. Often with no lights on other than DRL's or Full fronts and rear fogs.

I've not driven it enough (CC was fitted last November) and I don't push the limits, so can't say whether the tyres are better in one condition or another. It certainly feels more planted in all conditions, but I can't rule out placebo effect and new tyres with deeper grooves.

Superb will always be more comfortable. I find my Octavia good enough for motorway journeys, the alcantara seat bases could be softer, but other than that, it's a very comfortable family road-trip-er. With adaptive cruise control on my car, I can comfortably drive for 3 hours and not get tired.

If it's running cost you are worried about, going electric will save you BIG.  My Leaf monthly payments + commute electricity is less than my previous 10yr old Mercedes fuel cost for the same commute. Going electric for most of the time means I can own two cars for only a 20% running cost increase in comparison to running a premium brand banger.

I'm not ready for electric, I'd rather the convinence of topping up with fuel rather than charge mid-trip.

Did you get adaptive cruise control retro fitted to your Octavia? How much did that cost?

ACC came with my car. It was a dealer demonstrator to began with, which explains why it had 18inch wheels and so many optional extra fitted. Someone ran it for 3 years, then I bought it at 3.5 years old.

I agree EV isn't ready for everyone yet. Electric at affordable prices won't get you far. Hence why I've gone for an old first generation one and became a two car family.

I like the idea of getting an old Leaf as a second car for shirt journeys! I'm guessing they should be more reliable than combustion cars
