Are you p/x'ing Tony? If so, the cost of change is the important number, not the headline price. There's no point in getting £5k off the ticket price if they then offer you £5k less than market value for your trade-in.

yes but it's worth 3-3.5K so not much they can take off

  • Just had a look on Autotrader now at 220PS Sportline estates.  A fair few <5k mile examples with some options ticked.  All well below the asking price of the De Lorean and that's without any negoti

  • Just been thinking about this on the school run...   I'd give this one a wide berth and carry on looking.  This smells as fishy as Whitby Harbour.

I am more than satisfied with the fuel consumption. In Eco I regularly get 50+mpg on the currently speed restricted 50mph motorways around here. Fantastic for a 2 litre petrol. When you are allowed to put your foot down it has a reasonable pace but of course mpg goes down (Averaging about 36 mpg long term) . Best car I've ever had and I've had a few more powerful vehicles in the past too.

I bought mine from new with cash without a trade in hence the great deal.

I have been running a 220 L&K hatch for almost 2 years. Consumption average is 35-38 mpg. That on low milegae with lots of 40-5- mph on West Country roads. The enigne is very smooth and only talks to you if you call for the horses. Plenty of power when you need it but it is quite happy to poodle along. I had a 150TDI before this (S3 estate) and found that workmanlike but was only getting 40-45 mpg average in the 20 months that I had it. When I first had the 220 I kept thinking the engine had stalled as it was so quiet by comparison.

People can actually listen to a woman talking for a whole hour?  I thought DAB was meant to filter out the chaff?*

If you buy the L & K model you can tune in most lunchtimes on the TV tuner fitted and enjoy a whole gaggle of them changing the Universe, unfortunate title however "LOOSE WOMEN".:tongueout:

I'd offer 23k...Then they can only haggle upwards!

Like @KeteCantek mentions, you're into 280 territory in the high 20s

I offered 23k and they  just said that they can’t do that as they would loose money on the car and didn’t even counter and that this is not the car for me.

I found haggling really difficult with dealers so far they just don’t seem interested in any  offers and always say that they have already priced the car competitively.

I saw a 280 for the same price, lower miles and samish spec, which I mentioned and showed them as well, I really need to get as close as possible to 20k under 10k miles.

Hmmmm

Sadly I found the same when I was looking. Local dealers were quite happy to lose a sale when presented with details of the same specification car up-country for £3k less than they wanted.

But don't despair - if you are prepared to jump quickly, and have set up notifications for relevant cars to your email inbox, there will be bargains to be had when a particular dealer has to shift some stock to make way for new or because they haven't met their monthly target. Mine hit my inbox at 7.30am one Saturday and by 9.30 I had done the deal subject to inspection and test drive. I got it 6 months old, 6k miles and £13k under list; that's £3.5k less than an equivalent local car. Very much worth the 300 mile round trip to collect it.

Thank you that is good to know - how do you set up a email notification?

I agree with @BriskodaJeff. Myself and others travelled quite long distances for the right deal. I travelled nearly 300 miles for mine and @Chas51 went even further than me!

If you are prepared to travel for the right car at the right price, you've got the pick of the bunch. I found my previous car at the right price, spec and age and travelled 500 miles for it....a bit mad but it ticked every box and more!

I'm surprised they didn't counter your offer, maybe they can't be bothered with the sale or maybe they've met their targets so it's not worth their effort. Their loss!

Good luck with your search

Thanks, I'm more than happy to travel anywhere for the right deal.

It's been a while, but from memory most/all the sites have the facility (dealer-specific as well as the usual suspects such as AutoTrader et al). Put in the search criteria as usual and there will be a question somewhere on the side or at the bottom saying "do you want us to notify you when similar cars become available " or similar. Tick the relevant box and you will start to get the emails.

Odd that dealer didn't want to move even a bit. When I bought mine, even without negotiation, they lowered the price by 1k just for the fact that I said I am looking at another car later in the day.

I'd still say don't be afraid of a bit more mileage as long as the condition and history checks out if you are after a keeper. Do some calcs and you may find that you are 'saving' 20-30pence per mile for that little bit of extra.

@TonyTonic, I don’t think this forum and all the advice has been very lucky for you. You have been asking about buying a Superb for nearly a year now. Maybe go for one a little cheaper/older?

I think @TonyTonic is looking for a really low mileage/delivery miles one.

I can see many with 10k ish miles with good prices (to me) so not sure what criteria Tony is looking for. End of the day it's a big purchase so well worth taking the time for a good deal. Or at least one that makes him feel comfortable.

We were in the market a year ago but due to personal circumstances it didn’t happen. Now  we are back again.

In the meantime I have enjoyed reading, contributing and asking questions here on the forum.
