TSI 220

Featured Replies

Quick question, so if a dealer is selling a brand new unregistered TSI 220 now (Jan 2019), how long would it have been in their possession / showroom without being driven?

I thought they stopped production last year

  • Just had a look on Autotrader now at 220PS Sportline estates. A fair few <5k mile examples with some options ticked. All well below the asking price of the De Lorean and that's without any negoti

  • Just been thinking about this on the school run... I'd give this one a wide berth and carry on looking. This smells as fishy as Whitby Harbour.

It could have been sat at the docks or in their compound since it left the factory/entered the UK. It's likely to have been produced before the September WLTP cut off and could be one of the last ones off the production line (or I would assume). Wouldn't the dealer or even Skoda UK be able to give you it's build history?

Skoda UK have a spreadsheet of all the unallocated cars which are available, which dealers have access to and the general public can also request a peek at too and then purchase one, via a dealer. So the dealer who has it now could have bought it in for their own stock, if it was in this 'pool'.

Are you thinking of buying it? If so, check the back story and inspect every panel. It's not uncommon for transit damage and it could have been sat around in a crash repair centre for a few months (worst case scenario and I'm not trying to sound theatrical, these things happen)

My first Skoda, Mk2 Octavia vRS TFSI was a new, unregistered car which was built in Sept '06 and we bought it end of January '07 with 0 miles on the clock. The original buyer couldn't raise the finance to complete the sale so the dealer lost patience and wanted rid ASAP. We got it for a silly price as the dealer didn't give the original buyer his deposit back and just passed that discount on to us. We got it for £14.5K, which I thought was a steal at the time!

Defo do some digging if you're interested. It could actually be one of those rare, very good deals!

Is this car WLTP approved? Not aware any 220ps are. In which case if its not registered (before 1 Sept 2018) it can only be sold under the derogation rules

Afaik None were made after end of June (wk 26). May have been stored in Czech republic or Germany before being released. Delivery could have taken a month. So about 6 months since it was built. Impossible to say how long dealer has had it

what are derogation rules?

Derogation simply means that you (Company etc.) have been allowed to do something different to what was agreed. Say all cars must be painted white but you have an agreed derogation that a certain number (or within a certain period of time) of cars can be black. We use derogation in the Construction industry lots of times. That is my understanding of it anyway.

just spoke to the dealer.

It is not WTLP approved, he said that they are allowed to sell the car as it was built before September and they have a 'transition' period. It is still unregistered. Not sure if I should be worried.

Perhaps of relevance, I was looking through the history file of my 2006 Octavia, deciding what papers to throw out, I found the original PDI checklist and one of the items was "brake fluid change if more than 6 months since build date".

No idea if its still current but I would certainly want to know exactly when this supposedly new car was built and not just before September. I would then negotiate hard.

Must be a 230 surely. The production of the 220 model must have ceased over 2 years ago.

To mitigate the impact of the changes after September 1, a ‘derogation’ rule will allow manufacturers to retail NEDC-tested cars built before June 1, but only in volumes equivalent to 10% of their total 2017 registrations.

So the car must have been built before the June 1 deadline.

The OP didn't mention it was a Superb, just checked shouldn't have assumed it was an Octy but makes sense it would be a 217bhp Superb, you can chastise me anywhere, anytime.:giggle:

A clearer explanation is required in writing from the Sales Executive or the Dealer Principal on it being not UK First Registered before September 2018 and can it be first registered now as a New Car without the WLTP Certification or can they First Register under 'Derogation rules'.

The ad says be the first owner.

Skoda / VW or the Dealership own it now as it is imported to the UK, so maybe 'Be the First Registered Keeper' on the V5 but already someone owns it.

You are in the Superb III forum, Shy.....wake up.....drink some coffee.....:coffee:

It doesn't mention the electric/power boot on the options list but seems to have one, based on the pics. What other spec/options does it have over standard?

If it hasn't got many options then it's a case of do you want to have zero miles and be first registered keeper Vs spec you want and likely a bit cheaper but with 'some' miles on the clock, e.g;

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201811292849834?price-to=25000&advertising-location=at_cars&model=SUPERB&sort=sponsored&make=SKODA&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly New&onesearchad=New&postcode=cb40ds&price-from=19000&aggregatedTrim=SportLine&radius=1500&page=1

Also defo find out where the car has been on holiday for the last 3+ months!

It has apparently

  • Traffic Assist
  • Virtual Pedal
  • Heated washer nozzles
  • Heated wind screen
  • Metallic paint
  • Space saver spare wheel
  • Variable boot floor

Might be worth trying, Put the VIN number in the MySkoda App, will give the date of production. May not if it's already registered to someone else.

Some nice toys. Personally I think front sensors are a must for the Superb but I don't have to drive this one :) You can also have Lane Assist and High Beam assist enabled via VCDS, as it has the A5 fwd facing camera for TSA.

I like it and TBH it looks a good deal and you'll get the full 3 years warranty, I assume (seeing as it's from first registration)?

Might be worth seeing what others have paid for new cars via brokers too.

I do like the Sportline in white, especially the estate. For a big car it pulls it off well.

& If not 'First Registered' then the 2 year Skoda Extension to the 3 year Manufacturers Warranty should available.

And it comes with 2 free services as another incentive, don't forget.:inlove:

From the dealer:

Some of the notes I have on WLTP

Basically this car we have has been tested under NEDC regulations and any of these vehicle can be sold up to Dec 31st 2020

The vehicle is unregistered (No V5C) – we own it, but until it’s taxed it is not registered – if you purchase it, we register and tax it in your name – you are the first owner on the V5C and Skoda Finance have an interest in the vehicle for the finance.
