Price for servicing?

My 14 plate fabia 1.6tdi cr105 is needing a service and just quoted 253£ for it as 5th service, is this a fair price or rip of by skoda?

ADE Tuning do all the work on mine. It was £149 for a full service including fuel filters.

Probably normal though, for a main dealer. Some swear by it when it comes to selling on, some just swear and go elsewhere!

Il be keeping for good so do I trust skoda or go elsewhere and is this when they check the cam belts during 5th service?

Do you have any information from a Main Dealer that the Cam Belt is being checked at 5 years?

Are they not recommending as Skoda do that it is replaced at 5 years?

It’s only done 43 thou

I am not saying it needs the cam belt at 5 years or 160,000 miles which ever come first.  But see what they say.

 

The Skoda Fixed Price Service site is the one that says 'all drive belts inspected',  (Edit, sorry paraphrased there.)

when clearly they can not all be on all cars as dismantling would be required.

I have seen fairly high miles on cars, no cam belt change and no issue, where lower mileage ones need a change. There is more then one factor involved in if it needs it or not. A lot of fast, high revving driving and you will wear it faster. Drive gentler and it will last longer.  Then again, short journeys over along time, it will age and wear so it comes down to time duration, rather then mileage.

 

Recommended schedules will serve two purposes. They will ensure you replace it for your safety, to prevent it snapping and throwing all parts of the engine across the carriageway and secondly, to cover the manufacturers back from complaints of this, whilst also potentially making more money!

 

Lets face it, they could make the engine with a chain, which will last longer and perhaps be more reliable but it will cost more to build and will make less in servicing profits. That is a lose-lose for a manufacturer!

Would you say get dealer serviced or by other then ? Greatfull any help

Timing chains and their tensioners are not without their failures on vag petrol engines ( plenty of threads on here ) plus chains stretch  and are noisier which is why most manufactures went over to belts. Having it changed every 5 years is just an expense for have to allow for in the overall cost of ownership my 09 had its second one last year.

It’s mot fact I’ve done 44 k and weather it gets done or checked in 5 th year service il get to see the extortion labour tomorrow, won’t be impressed if they do oil change by suction through dipstick compared to via drain plug.cheers

@M444GPE  Why would you not be impressed it is how it should be done these days.  H&S and environmentally friendly.  They are professionals.

Oil & near operating temperature, then the drain plug removed and any oil left drained, new sump plug fitted.  

 

If it is done by suction and no Sump Plug changed but charged for and vat paid then that is fraud / deception and they need dealt with 

as Stealers.

Always leaves stuff in the sump, means can do my self as charging an hourly labour rate when two minutes to push a tube in is a bit of a scam.just means skoda won’t be getting my buisness in future that’s all plus it’s any monkey can do the job yr paying a qualified mechanics labour rate for a job skodas cleaner could do, with my engineering background it ain’t as good .

It is not 2 minutes to push in a tube, there is the same as draining by the sump plug as the sump plug comes out anyway.

Any Sump / Under tray needing removed needs removed.

When done correctly that is.

 

As it is the Collecting the car from where parked and the 'service' and Report takes less time often than the Wash & Vacuum and messing about.

The Body Inspection should be done after the Wash but seldom is & people say 'No Wash' and yet hand in cars that doing a good inspection for Paint &Corrosion warranty is not easy to do on.

Don’t think warantee valid now cars a 14 plate 44000 miles il skip all clean etc as ain’t got the time to waste to be honest

Sounds a bit like you are the man to do this job, cut out the middle man?

Paint warranty might be 3 years, but that does not let Skoda / VW off and then there is the Corrosion Warranty.

 

Currently there are people with cars that might be 4, 5, 6 or more years old having Corrosion Issues and Skoda UK are knocking back rgeir claims because no 

Periodic Inspection done.

 

Even though in the T&C's the Warranty on Paint & Corrosion no longer mentions the Body Inspections which were shown in the Service Books when there were Fixed & Major Services 

and which the Skoda Fixed Price Servicing site says is done.  'Body Inspection'.

 

Maybe now people could not care less about Corrosion Warranties, but if they own a keeper then that might become important.

You only know about common rust locations as the years pass & the rust appears.

That service price sounds fantastic I'd stick with them. I have just been shocked with a bill for just under £500 for an MOT (It passed) and a full service for my 2010 1.2 TSi Fabia with 40,000 on the clock,  the only extra being a brake fluid change. I won't be returning. It was a local garage which I hadn't used before but had good reviews! My usual repairers who I had used and trusted for over 20 years had unfortunately stopped trading last year. This new place also informed me that the rattle I had asked them to investigate was the timing chain and was nothing to worry about unless it got really bad and I was losing power. I have since found out that it is something to worry about and will probably incur a huge bill for a new chain. So not impressed.

Major service including changing spark plugs and air filter would be £279 at a Skoda Fixed Price participating dealer

 

I would get a 2nd opinion on the Timing Chain.  Especially with a 2010 1.2 TSI.

There is a TPI, there is an upgraded timing chain kit, and Engine Failure is terminal.

I’m done with them too only did it as was given car by my father and he wanted them to do 5th service, Skoda charge for the fresh air in the workshops, I know a good mechanic now to look after it and do mots as skoda just too expensive for small budget

Thankyou for the advice I am a female OAP and only purchased the car 11 months ago. I have been really pleased with it until I this service price shock and then I started reading about the Timing chain issues, I now have to try and find a trustworthy garage to check if the chain does need replacing and how much this is likely to cost. Otherwise I love the car, it drives well and has been very reliable so far.

Was it a Skoda Main Dealership you had your car into?

Have you any idea why the Service, Brake Fluid Change & MOT bill was so high, were they just taking advantage of you, or were they charging for a diagnostics as well?

 

Maybe say where you are in the UK and someone can suggest a trust worthy Independent Specialist. 

Hopefully your timing chain will be fine.

Could you look at the Service Invoice and see what oil it shows as used and the price, Units used?

Is there 4x Spark plugs, 

Air Filter

Pollen Filter

Fuel Filter listed as well as the Oil, Oil Filter Sump Plug and Washer Fluid.
