Strange noise possible from clutch

Featured Replies

Hello!

Just I bought a Skoda Fabia MK2 1.4 (85 HP) from 2008 and I am very happy with it. The only thing which is worries me is a strange noise which I can hear in the cabin most the time. The noise is disappearing when I press the clutch pedal. Having a look under the bonnet, everything sounds ok.

Please can you give me some advice if it is something to worry about or what can be wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Its more likely to be something in the gearbox if the noise goes away when you disengage the clutch

Thanks for your reply! I don't think that is the gearbox, because it is making that noise even when the car is not engaged in any gear.

Could it be the clutch release bearing?

It could be the gearbox input shaft bearings since the input shaft will spin even when the car is not in gear and the clutch pedal is not depressed, pressing down the clutch pedal disconnects the gearbox from the engine stopping the input shaft from spinning. The bottom line is if the noise stops when you press the clutch it COULD be the input shaft bearing. To be sure a mechanic would probably need to have a look.

Thanks! Yes, can be. You know, strange is that under the bonnet everything seems to be alright. Inside the noise is similar with the noise of two toothed wheels which are rotating without any oil.

I would say it a gearbox problem, if its an 02t 5 speed manual they seem quite prone to bearing failures internally. A visit to a gearbox specialist advised who will have the know how to check it.
