2014 TdF 4x4 Haldex

Featured Replies

Having picked up comments about the Haldex filter on here (Skoda) and similar on other VAG Forums I decided that it would be prudent to get my Haldex oil and filter changed. Car has 61K on the clock and Progress Skoda @ Letchworth changed the oil (only...I didnt know about the filter then) at the 40K service. I got the kit (Filter & Oil) online from a Haldex Service centre and asked my local independent VAG garage if they could do the changes. Although they hadnt done a Skoda before they regularly do Audi TT's which are similar.

As I know the guy's I was able to observe, draining the oil it was found to be pretty clean (only 21K since change) but what came out was about 200ml less than capacity so the dealer hadnt put in the full amount. The filter was a bit difficult to extract as the outer plastic plug/O ring seals (under the alloy cover plate) was tight/dry. The filter once out was fairly well clogged with muck but not enough to block it and no fault codes were found before we started the job. The bottomline/my view is that the oil and filter definitely need changing at 40K......except the VAG main dealers dont know (or care....some must read the Forums) and the filter isnt listed on their parts system......so you need to find an independent. If you are in the Cambridge area try Vince @ VWee Cars Burwell 01223-743101.

Think you were fortunate to get to 61K with no faults.  Had some bad luck with my car this year which included the Haldex pump failing around 40k miles despite oil change as per Skoda schedule.

I sat with the parts guy in the dealership when my pump had failed to get some prices and pointed out the filter was missing from their parts system diagrams and got a blank response.  Hence I sorted out the replacement myself, probably buying the parts from the same place that supplied your parts.  You may have seen my thread but its here if you want a read.  A lot of debris on the pump strainer and the filter which I think makes an annual oil change and strainer clean is worthwhile, possibly with filter, or at least the filter every second change.  I don't want to have to replace another pump...!  https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/453632-haldex-fault-codes-00448-updated/?do=findComment&comment=5134424

This is also a good thread which shows the process  https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/453996-haldex-filter-oil-change/?do=findComment&comment=5120396

The fact Skoda/VAG don't recognise the filter is negligent in my view and I was surprised at the number of garages I spoke to who worked on Haldex units but weren't aware of the filter !

I have done 380 000 km (238 K miles) now and no filter change . Only regular oil changes at every 60 000 km.

Works like a charm.

Hopefully your words are not going to haunt you.
