Fog lamp bulbs

Featured Replies

I’ve just gone to fit LED kit to my fog lamps the last halogen in the vehicle and after research found it to be H8 so ordered a H8 kit , the original bulb looks like a H11 soldered to a H8 socket but the plastic connector isn’t H8 as you can see below in pic . I quickly knocked up a temp loom but trying to find a proper adaptor any ideas ? Almost looks like 9006

top is original bulb

Do you have cornering lights?

If so, my suggestion would be not to change to LED.  The cornering lights are the only external lights which don’t have a simple on-off action, but gently fade.  Unless Škoda have taken the unusual step of somehow preparing for an owner to change to LED, it will be done by a simple dropping away of the voltage. A halogen bulb will fade smoothly out; an LED bulb will drop brightness a bit, but then suddenly flicker and go off.  Not the end of the world, but it will be distracting to the driver and spoil the effect.

No cornering Function on mine

Those Kodiaq's that leave the factory with LED front fog lights don't fade on and off. They are quite sudden in their illumination.

A downside to LED I guess, and one point for halogens.

The Mk3 FL Octavia LED fog lights fade out. I’m surprised the Kodiaq doesn’t.

They do... on mine, at least.

On the Kodiaq, the LED cornering / fog lights don't appear to fade 'on', but they do fade 'off'.

Fast forward to 2:05...

I drive a 2011 Superb with halogen cornering lights and from behind the wheel you can almost see the bulbs warming up!

In contrast on the Kodiaq they look to me to almost flash on, typical LED style.

Having watched mine operate (from inside the vehicle), they do fade on - albeit rather quickly (half a second or so, it's definitely not instant). I struggle to notice when they fade off though - it's a lot slower and it just seems to merge into the headlight beam.

I'm now intrigued.  Why does this fade matter please?

Perhaps having them fading in and out makes their operation look less like a deliberate flash by the driver and therefore less likely to be confused for an unrelated signal of intent etc?

Or maybe its just a little more aesthetically pleasing.

If they do indeed fade-in on the Kodiaq, their fading-in is quite abrupt. No issue, I just prefer the slightly less obvious / sudden illumination of my older halogens on the Superb.
