Typical MPG extra urban? 1.6 pre-FL

Featured Replies

after 2 weeks on a school run, im seeing 55mpg (full to full) from the "fixed" 1.6 Superb with 81000 miles on the clock

school total is 640 miles/week, A+B roads with a tiny bit of Dual carriageway

Is that real figures or Display?

You can't really complain at anything north of 50mpg on a car the size of the Superb.

Sounds right for the type of driving you describe, the 1.6d likes the A and B road mix.  When I used a 2.0 140 for a week, I found that the 2.0 was a couple of miles per gallon better at 120kph on the motorway. When on 75 to 100kph roads though, the 1.6 shone (mpg wise) with 5mpg better.

What i really like though is the Superb kicking my previous 525d estates butt by 20mpg.  How much are you saving over the E class Merc? Quite a bit I'm thinking...?

I once did 700 miles Dover to Spain 1 tank

What does how much you have in the tank matter.

If you put in 52.53 litres that is 11.55 gallon.

How many litres does it require to do 640 miles.  Is it the 52.53 litres so near 55.5 MPG?

Best tank I have had on my 1.6 was 709 miles (1142 km) out of 55 litres.

(West of Ireland to Dublin Port, Holyhead to Oxford, Oxford back to Holyhead and a panicked fill when I got off the ferry in Dublin!)

I can still get 800 miles out of a tankful on my 1.6 Greenline without too much trouble even though it has done 125k. Fuel light is usually on at that point though.

Because.............. the "range" shows less than the fuel which must be left in a 66 ltr tank should do if it takes 52.53 ltrs

66-52= 14ltrs or almost 2.5 uk gallons = over 100 miles in theory whereas the range showed only 30 miles left in tank

I most often put in 63 litres as the light comes on and get between 630-730 litres until the light comes on again . the tank capacity is 63 litres and i don't think if it is 6 or 8 litres that is sitting unused and showing 80 miles range.

I could the miles per litre or miles per gallon on diesel used not diesel sitting unused.

Official tank capacity is 60 litres on a Superb II (it was bigger onthe Superb I) but filling from empty (showing about 10 miles) I don't usually manage to get more than 52 litres of petrol in mine. I only fill up to the first "click" though. There is either a few remaining litres after the range shows zero or beyond the first click on filling. Still usually get over 500miles on a tank though, not the huge ranges shown on this thread but I suppose mine drinks from the other green coloured pump!

In contrast my previous Superb I pd was the otherway round - managed to get 70 litres into that which gave it a range well over 700 miles.

Sorry,  i was OT, it is not a Superb i put 63 litres in just a TDI / DSG,

so just pointing out how i look at Fuel used, i only bother with what is bought on brim to brim and miles covered. What is not used is not used.

You had me wondering if my tank had shrunk! :notme:

The absolute  most I have been able to squeeze into mine is 55.5 litres and the range was showing 20km left.

Usually I fill it shortly after the light comes on.  I've heard too many stories of people being nearly empty and constantly just popping a tenners worth in. That seems to lead to fuel pump problems - I assume the cause is the pump uses the fuel to cool itself and there isn't enough in the tank to act as a heat sink.

Not so good this week.

625 miles/53.79ltrs 51 mpg due to bad traffic on 2 days i guess

if it took 53.79ltrs how many were left in the tank cos it said 35 miles "range
