Starting off in my wifes '17 plate Citigo the last 3 occasions, after about 1 mile I hear the warning 'Ding' from the dashboard area & on me looking, I notice '40deg' flashing for about 5 times in the little window inside the Speedo.

I haven't a clue what's it's trying to tell me!!!

Has anyone out there got any ideas?

It's the frost warning telling you that there is a possibility of ice on the road as the outside temperature is 4.0 degrees Centigrade

If you notice "40deg" flashing....it's telling you that a trip to Specsavers is due!

I take it this is your first VAG car, this has been a feature for many years!

 

Usually it displays a little ice symbol which makes it pretty much self explanatory

Yes, 1st VAG car.

 

Lada & Polonez used a different method to warn the driver of Frost when I owned them.

They installed an 'electronic' device in the Engine to prevent it from starting for 10 minutes.

 

The device was very reliable.

They probably still use it, if they are still in the business of making cars.
