Bolero > Columbus

Featured Replies

Hi,

I recently purchased an Octavia SE TDI CR 2012 which came with a bolero radio unit, maxidot and Bluetooth installed.

Ive been scowering the forum's at the procedure to upgrade the head unit to a Columbus, it would be nice to have the sat nav.

From what I can gather the unit is a straight swap in size, with a new trim required that is easy to get from dealer.

The unit needs some coding from what I see people mentioning. What exactly is this, how is it done and who can do it. Does it cost much?

I'd really like to do this upgrade but don't want to cause functionality issues with what I currently have.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

TDUM

The Columbus should be a drop in replacement with the addition of a suitable trim. You'll also need to add a GPS antenna but the cheap aftermarket units seem to work well.

As for coding, that's easiest with VCDS. It's basically letting the car know it's got sat nav and making sure the Columbus understands what options are fitted to the car. Not particularly hard as it's a pretty common upgrade.

There are plenty of forum members dotted around with VCDS who can probably help. Costs will be down to that member but I expect most are happy with a few beer tokens or will even do it for free.

Where are you based? I have a Columbus in the garage I keep meaning to sell ;)

I'm in Somerset, and okay doesn't sound like too much of an issue then.

How much are you selling your Columbus unit for?

I'd probably be looking £300 based on ones I've seen for sale. Shame you're not closer as I've had done the coding for you.

It's a non-DAB version and the part number is 3T0 035 680 B. I've since updated it to the latest firmware and newest V16 maps. I should have the radio code for it as well (needed the first time it's plugged in).

If you're interested drop me a PM and I'll get some pictures of it.
