Superb 2019/MY2020 facelift (again!)

Featured Replies

Apart from the posting a few hours ago about the hybrid (which also mentioned FL changes like full-LED headlights) does anyone have any update about this? Launch announcement is supposed to be at Geneva in mid-March according to the article.

My (PCH) car's due for replacement in mid-September (actually mid-August but have to delay at least 1 month because of holidays), is it likely that by then this will be the FL/MY2020 model? If not I can delay another month or two...

  • That didn't take long to go OT again lol.

  • I also paid my pcp off in three weeks but I made two payments just to be sure as they said do I want to cancel the pcp, which I did not. So I collected the £4000 deposit contribution, two service (fir

It will most likely be available in the end of Q3 2019 or even Q4 2019.

Here are images of the actual facelifted Superb (second page)

Certainly not complaining about the ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ nature of this facelift as it makes it less likely my 2018 car will take a hit for looking old at the end of its PCP.

It’ll get thumped for not being an SUV but that’s another story.

Wonder if they changed much inside

I think there are only a few significant changes, things like the virtual instrument panel becoming standard on the L&K and LED headlights in place of bi-xenon. So really it's the usual tradeoff of wait for the new model (new/improved features, better residual value) against maybe being able to grab a big discount on the outgoing one. Luckily I don't have to place an order until maybe June by which time there should be a lot more detail about the changes...

I ordered mine a couple of weeks back, looking like a late march early April delivery, I'd have liked the led headlights but need a big car now

I’m almost ready to press go on a 280 Sportline Plus. I think I’ll wait and see what the discounts are like on the outgoing version.

I got 20% off list price on my sportline plus

Likewise. The changes seem so minor and given that it's already a 3-4 month wait for a factory order you might as well just go with the current model (which has the added benefit of looking fantastic, even against the facelift version).

Wow, was that for a car in stock or a custom order? Broker or dealer? Cash or finance?

I might prefer to do that, but I still can't accept delivery until September by which time any custom orders are likely to be the facelift model. The chances of finding what I want from stock (272 L&K estate in petrol blue) are negligible, almost all the 272s are sportline or sportline plus...

Unless you are totally against the look of the Sportline you spec the Sportline Plus with the main bits from L&K (DCC, Canton, Reverse cam) and keep the list price below 40k for tax.

Custom order, expected delivery end of march, main dealer, took PCP finance with maximum deposit to take advantage of skoda £3000 deposit contribution, (included in the 20% discount figure)  intend to settle the balance asap and pay the final payment so I own it

The Sportline Plus has got various bits I don't want (like the look...) and not got various bits I do want which the L&K has as standard. If I spec up the Sportline Plus it ends up costing several thousand more for a car that isn't what I want -- which is something well-equipped that looks non-aggressive on the outside but goes like stink, in other words a Q-car...

So you didn't really get 20% discount because by the time you've paid the finance back at (IIRC) 5.5% APR this more than eats up the £3000. Best price I could find with PCP was 19.6% saving (including the £3000), but this was only 12% (from same dealer) with cash.

I talked about this to my local dealer and he said that all the prices offered (e.g. through carwow) were effectively set by the amount of discount incentive Skoda UK give to the dealer, which varies by area, sales performance, profits and so on; when I quoted him the best figure he immediately said "yes, they can give 12%, other dealers can give 10%, we can only give 8% -- being honest, there's no way we can match their price when they  get 4% more discount from Skoda UK, if all that matters is price then go to them".

Refreshing honesty I thought, no holding out false hope of a better deal or trying to pull the wool over my eyes.

I plan to settle the balance as soon as I get the car, I won't pay any interest

Are you sure you can do that if you take the £3000 deposit contribution? They're giving that out on the principle that they'll claw it back on the finance payments, they'd be mad to just let you walk away with it -- I suspect if you dig into the small print you'll find that if you buy the car early you'll have to give back most or all of the £3000, probably proportional to how much of the PCP finance term has passed.

P.S. Was it the same dealer who offered me the best deal (19.6% including £3500 deposit contribution) -- town has 5 letters beginning with "E"?

No, in the UK you can settle the balance within 14 days, and keep the discount, there's also a £500 test drive bonus on at the moment which I got too

alternatively with the pcp you can pay a lump sum to reduce your monthly payment and interest owed as long as the monthly payments are over £50

Not saying you didn't check, but are you absolutely sure about that? Did you either confirm it in writing with the dealer or get to read all the contract small print yourself?

It sounds unlikely that Skoda UK would just let you walk away with £3000 of their money in your pocket compared to a cash deal (which is effectively what you're getting). The Consumer Credit Directive (CCD) gives you the right to withdraw from any credit agreement and pay off the full amount within 14 days, but since the £3000 "deposit contribution" was paid by Skoda Finance as part of the credit agreement I'd expect that you'd have to pay it back when you withdraw from the agreement.

If not it's a great loophole which I'm surprised hasn't been plugged, because you'd think that lots of people would have done it and it would be costing the car companies a fortune...

P.S. I know about the test drive bonus, doesn't help me because car has to be delivered by March 31st :-(

Also planning on paying off early. I would suspect the finance actually has to start. So paying it off in the cooling off period wouldn’t count and they’d  want the £3000 back. Make at least a single payment and legally you have taken out the finance so no money back.

Interesting, I bought one on PCP in June last year, sounds like I could pay off now and save a fortune in interest?

I was going to wait as well but ordered new custom car and managed to get 26.4% discount off rrp and that was PCP. I confirmed I could pay it off after the 14 days as well.

There are a few manufacturers starting 0% deals again so I’m going to give it a few weeks then order. Through a broker I can get 22% off. However my Sportline Plus spec is still over 40k annoyingly.
