Dsg judder from pulling off

Featured Replies

Sorry if this has been covered in any other posts.

My 2011 170 dsg combi judders slightly (almost if the revs are too low) when you take your foot off the brake when pulling off. It does this in both forward and reverse.

If I just brush the gas pedal it pulls of very smoothly. It seems that if the car is facing down hill, it doesn’t do it either.

No other issues when driving. Once it’s rolling, even a little bit, it’s fine.

I had the oil and filter changed in the last 1000 miles. The garage (main dealer) picked the car up from my house and took it back and they said the box was fine.

I haven’t had the car very long and are wondering if anyone else has this issue or it’s just a quirk if the gearbox.

Thanks for any advice or info.

Worn DMF (Dual Mass Flywheel).

Thanks, I’ve booked it into my local transmission specialist. It doesn’t have any clatter, like others I’ve seen on here. Can the DMF wear out without the associated noise?

Sorry my mechanical knowledge is dire.

Thanks

Jon

Clatter and judder are two common characteristics of a worn DMF, they're not always mutually exclusive though, I'd imagine it's possible to have one without the other, or perhaps the clatter is more easily disguised in some engine / gearbox configurations?

A transmission specialist should very quickly tell you if its DMF or clutch pack related or not.

Good luck!

Just to let anyone  know. I took the car to Milta Technology in Bristol who gave the box a good look over. They took it for a test drive and plugged it into their computer (all free).

The judder that I was feeling was only the clutches engaging as the car moved away and this is normal (me being over sensitive). They told me that for the mileage of the car, the gearbox was in excellent condition and is showing no faults.

They said that the clutches may be showing a very early stage of wear as they was a tiny click when moving the selector between positions, but they wouldn’t recommend any further action on this as it doesn’t effect the way the car drives.

I was really impressed with the guys there and would never hesitate in going back if I ever have a real problem!

next thing on the list is a new engine thermostat and cam belt!!

To "Jonnys19882" - It is good to change and "DSG" thermostat, it is more problematic than the other one :)

I’ve already done that one sadly, it made a difference but it’s still losing heat
