Shame, I had been searching for just that, have already ordered what I hope is the right one from E-bay, I might check the listing anyway.

  • Well done Wino!   Just been out in the cold again, it was there! Shutdown code 8, evaporator temp less than 3°c   Now I know what to look for when things warm up a bit.

  • Mobile aircon guy a good idea, not here in business unfriendly France, it wont exist but I will soon be back in UK and will do the swapout in my workshop.   The prize though goes to Aston Bo

  • Do that for me as I no longer can (teetotal now) but thats definitely what I would have done so you can do it for me by proxy   I think what has really pleased me was until this faultfindin

Xiangang pump fitted, £20 cash regas and the aircon is now working for the first time in my ownership

Its been a real mission and a good learning experience and feels great to finally get a result.

Will pull apart the old pump tonight, I am betting that its no more than a broken spring or a stuck valve etc.

It might be my imagination but the heating on auto now feels either warmer or more even, more heat seems to be coming out of the upper vents than before, it just seems a more comfortable habitat as if the automatic climate control could not work properly before.

Great news. I might have a glass of wine this evening to celebrate that for you... :)

I think what has really pleased me was until this faultfinding trail I knew little or nothing about how aircon worked, I've gone through all the next obvious suspect parts learning along the way, I was fairly sure that it had to be the pump and that with all the VCDS measurements there was nothing else that it could be but had the nagging doubt that maybe there was something else still unknown to me.

Time for the autopsy of the old pump now.......................

Good to see you got it working again, the job was not too bad was it?

A piece of pi55, access a bit restricted but mostly done by feel, pull off one electrical connector, remove drive belt using 16mm spanner on tensioner lug, remove 2 Tork 45 cap screws and pull off hose pipes, remove 3 M8 13mm fixing hex bolts and drop it out the bottom.

And the  the phrase coined by the founder of Haynes manuals (RIP, he died today) re-assembly is the reverse of the removal procedure.

No more than an hour start to finish even less if the undertray is already removed for other work.

Well done and cheap regass, I'd pull mine to bits right now if I could get someone to handle the gas recovery/refill for less than £60 while I check/clean/replace the solenoid valve.

Glad to hear it is working and you are happy with the results.

China pulls through once again :D lets hope it runs for a good few years before it blows up.....

Was there any oil in the compressor? Not sure if a new pump comes with included oil.

If not, did they add oil during the regass?

For the price it sounds like a very good deal for a new pump!

I saw him pull the oil out of the old compressor, I dont think there was any in the new one, the old one has a lot remaining in it and the new one had little or no trace.

I did not see him put oil back in and neither of them really knew what they were doing, had lots of problems with the machine, i asked and he said that the oil was put in but then he would say that.

You get what you pay for and I paid £20, if it does not fail in short order then it must have oil in it.

Tested all the relevant parameters in VCDS today and everything was as it should be so I think its fully charged and will monitor it.
