VCDS Not Allowing Coding Changes...

Featured Replies

Hello, today I picked up my 2008 Skoda Octavia vRS II with only 47,000 miles on it...

After getting my new vRS mats in the car my son scanned it with VCDS, however we wanted to know whether we will be able to enable DRLs instead of the fogs, so we used the Long Code helper and clicked on the tick box to enable the DRLs, however it came up with the error...

"This appears to be an uninitialized control module; valid WSC/Importer/Equipment data may be required."

So we clicked yes to agree to the default values, and once we clicked "Do it!" again it told us the coding had been accepted. However when we went back into the long coding helper the box for DRLs had no longer been checked. This was also tested on the door locking above 15kmh and door unlock when key removed from ignition and the same error came back.

Am I doing something wrong? or is there a way around this? As we'd really like to do a Cruise Control retrofit but I don't want to buy the new stalk if I am not going to be able to code the car to work with the stalk.

Thanks, Mike.

Genuine VCDS lead?

I think @Babs may have it the nail on the head. What version number of VCDS are you using and please will you post a photograph of the cable you're using to connect it to the car? Is the copy of VCDS registered?

No.1 cause of "VCDS not working" problems is a fake eBay lead!

As far as we are aware the cable is genuine, and as you requested here is the image of the cable and the version of VCDS is 18.2. The cable has been used previously on a Mk5 Golf and an Audi A3 8P and there were no problems with them and all of the coding was stored.

Might be a daft question but just in case - are you exceeding your licenced number of VINs?

When it was purchased it was listed as the Unlimited VIN version. Is there a way of checking? Please.

According to the Ross-Tech site here you need to click on "About" and the license status will be in a panel on the left.

@Miket65 The HEX+CAN is an old interface now. It doesn't support working with some modules in cars after 2015. I believe Ross-Tech run an upgrade program if you want the latest cable. Your vRS II is older than 2013 so it should work fine with the cable you have.

Are you running the latest version on VCDS and have you plugged the cable in and started VCDS with your laptop attached to the Internet to give it a chance to check and update the firmware in the cable, if needed? I've always done my updates indoors so I don't know if VCDS can update the cable firmware if the laptop doesn't have an Internet connection at the time.
