Mk1 Octavia TDi 110 Elegance purchase. 53K miles..

Featured Replies

So the car has 53000 miles. Had a good look at it and it seems to be legitimate. Unfortunately I could not drive it but seemed strong and relatively quiet with no turbo lag. It started at 0 degrees with after the glow plug light went off relatively quickly with a light mist of oil smoke.

It has had a cam belt and water pump at 47K with oil & filters etc from an independent mechanic.

Air con does not work.

MOT till end of August

MOT advisory to be fixed before purchase : "Axle swivel pins and bushes swivel pin and/or bush slightly worn both rear bushes (5.1.2 (b) (i))"

No apparent leaks around the sunroof.

Am I being completely screwed at 1300 imperial credits of the realm? I am in need of a car and don't currently have a way to get around besides the bus.

P.S I hope this first post is adequate, the knowledge an expertise of the people of this forum would be a great help. Thanks

I wouldn't have said 'completely screwed', no.  A good car is a good car, and a bad one is a bad one.  If you're happy with the price and it seems genuine.....

What I can say is that a few years ago, I had a 110TDI B5 Passat (AFN engine) and it was one of the best cars I've owned.  I passed it on to a mate, who owned it for another six years.  I had cause to drive it last year and found myself wondering why on earth I got rid of it.

Thanks for the reply. I have heard a similar sentiment from friends back in S.A who owned various cars with the 1.9 tdi. Also a drive in a polo PD130 6 speed had me really impressed. The car seems like a good car but that's the gamble really.
