Does an 'inspection service' include oil change?

Featured Replies

Am looking to buy a Fabia. The Skoda service printout for one I'm interested in shows some entries saying 'Inspection service'. Does such a service include oil change? (If not, this particular example hasn't had as many oil changes as it should...)

The Minor/ Interim Service and Major services used to be call Minor/Inspection Services & Major Services.

These are Oil & Filter changes then the bits and pieces.

Fixed Servicing @ 9,400 miles / 372 days or sooner.

Now there are Variable Services called 'Interim & Major,  or Major every 18,000-20,000 miles / 24 months.

Long Story short is a Service would be expected to be the OIL & Filter, an Inspection, then maybe Pollen, Air, Fuel Filters etc. As per needs.

Anyone listing a Service where the Oil & Filter was not changed would be at it.   Some are at it though, so you never know.

Thanks. The weird thing with the car I'm looking at is that it had an 'inspection service' at 31k then an 'oil change service' at 32k, just a few months later...

With the VW Group, you can get into the situation where a car has done the miles but not the months, so it only gets oil service, sometimes even a major service, but not an inspection as the inspection at times is only based on months/years since new and since previous inspection.

This can be a bit of a faff and lead to you getting a service today - but get expected to return in a month's time for the inspection element - I'd not put up with that as that just wastes your time, keeps the dealerships busy though!

Really the complete approach to servicing should be smart enough to minimise the number of times that a car needs to visit a garage - sometimes, maybe marque specific, "approved used cars" get an oil change when sold, which just messes things up a bit more - been there done that!

@cosmicjazzer What car are you looking at now, is it still a 1.2TSi, and how old?

I'll be going to see the car that prompted this thread tomorrow. I'm assured by Skoda that their inspection service does indeed include an oil change (as you said!). The car in question is a 1.2 70bhp model, so not a TSI. It's done 38k and is £4990 at a main dealer. It actually has the most complete service history I've ever seen! If for some unforseen reason it doesn't float my boat I'd certainly consider a decent TSI that's a 13 or later (so as to avoid the chain issues of the earlier ones).

Is it a 3 cylinder 1.2 12 valve 68bhp/ 69 ps .?  What trim, S/SE/SE Plus/ Elegance or Monte Carlo?

Skoda main Dealer Service history can not be much on a 38,000 mile car.  Lots of Oil & wash and vacuums is it not if on fixed services and a few years old.

?

What does the Service History show?

Yes it's the 3 cylinder 12 valve 68bhp. SE trim. The service record shows 6 services plus 2 'multi point checks' plus 2 MOTs. Advertised price includes 12 month Skoda warranty and new MOT. Seems promising, all in all!

If you are buying a Skoda Approved car then, 'Multi point check', and if it was sold before as a used car that was a Multi Point Check done then.

In the workshop, on the ramp, and as good as the person doing them.

Multipoint / Health checks should be done at every Main Dealer Service or when a car is in the workshop for any actions.

Not much to do at 6 services over 38,000 miles.

Hopefully, the Spark plugs have been replaced and some chancer is not saying 40,000 miles before changing and the same with the Air Filter.

The thing with Full Main Dealer Service Histories is it often shows how little gets done in the way of Servicing and Maintenance at Main Dealerships.

I agree.....not worth a thing "imo".......I would always rather buy from an enthusiast or good diy'er who keeps receipts etc etc, much better history than a book that can be stamped "anytime" whether it's done or not. Sounds a bit cynical I know but over the years found that dealers often not done what was stamped for.

My car has a full dealer history up to the point it was traded in at a local Ford dealer from where I bought it......when I removed the air filter it was dated the month / year the vehicle was manufactured.....even though a full skoda history AND the Ford dealer said they had serviced it, which I did not believe and was proved right.

If I ever ran a garage selling cars, they would ALL get an air/ oil / fuel filter and plugs as a "minimum" for a service, it's not expensive in real terms.
