Current Tyres on 19" Wheels + Winter Tyre Recommendation

Featured Replies

Hello

I've just pulled the trigger on a 1.5 TSI DSG 4x4 in Edition Trim

As standard it comes with 19" Crater Alloys

A couple of questions :

  • Does anyone know the current brand(s) of tyres they are fitting to 19" wheels
  • I'm likely to change them next Winter to a smaller set me Winter/All Season Tyres.   What is the recommended approach/combination here (i.e. 17" Triton with Michellin Cross Climate+) or another alternative

Appreciate any advice

Mine came with Bridgestone Duellers (19") which were absolutely pants in the snow last February.  Managed to get a set of 19" Sirius wheels at a great price, and currently running on Nokian WR A4 Winter tyres - the difference is night & day. You pays your money and takes your choice, but I cannot understand why anyone would destroy the looks of the car that is running on 19" wheels and drop down to 17".  My previous car, a Kuga TX was on 19" Continentals during Summer, and 19" Dunlop SP Winter Sports and never flinched once driving through snow.

As is well publicised now, it not all about snow & ice, but just as importantly generally driving in sub 7C degree conditions.

I have permanently switched wheels to 17" Triton with Cross Climate and the car drives so much better; both quieter/smoother and more responsive and copes well in all weathers we get in Essex.  I would also say the look of the car is as good but then I'm not too hung up on the biggest wheel look - to me 17" wheels do look nicely balanced and have a certain poise but then I know others like the Range Rover Sport look (especially in Essex!!!)

17” wheels with the correct size tyres will be the same overall diameter as 19’s with low profile tyres.
