I have recently bought a 1.5TSI SEL Karoq that was pre registered by the dealer but am rather confused by the specification and even more confused by the owners handbook!

 

It came with all the usual SEL features but in addition had a spare wheel, auto dimming rear view mirror and auto windscreen wipers that start up when it rains and adjust the speed with the amount of rain.

I expected it to also have auto light dimming as I thought it came bundled with the auto dimming mirror and auto wipers package. It does not appear to have this facility. Entering CAR- Lights in Infotainment there is only the options: short, medium, long to switch the lights on during rain. Can anyone elucidate?

If you have " Auto Lights " the light switch should look something like this

Yes, I do have the Auto lights switch and it is always left in that position but I did not think that controlled the auto light dimming,  only when the lights illuminate in rain and dark weather etc.

Auto dimming is for the rear view mirror.

The only automatic dimming of the headlights feature is the HBA (High Beam Assist), which automatically switches from dipped headlights to main beam and vice-versa.

 

The SE L gets everything the SE gets plus more.

 

The SE already gets the light and rain sensor, automatic headlight control and the auto dimming rear view mirror...

 

 

What doesn't help is that they also claim the SE (and therefore the SE L too) get's "Light Assistant".

 

Which by all accounts is different to "Light Assist", or otherwise known as High Beam Assist (HBA)...

 

 

Confirmed by the fact "Automatic Heam Beam Lights" are a factory cost option on the SE L...

 

 

Did you check to see if it is listed here...

I certainly have auto dimming rear view mirror and light and rain assist but not HBA as far as I can see. Perhaps a one off  car that slipped through the net?

If you have HBA and it's active you will see the symbol in the Red Box ( under the Temp 12.5c

Bingo! Many thanks, no symbol has ever appeared so I presume I do not have HBA. Strange that I have a rear view dimming mirror and auto wipers, as the three seem to come together as a package?

Only these three features are standard on the SE L...

 

 

Light Assist (High Beam Assist) is the £200 option...

 

What camera do you have in the windscreen?

 

If you have the one on the left (green triangle) then HBA can be activated with the likes of VCDS.

The camera is the square type shown in the centre of the rear view mirror.  But no options appear for Light assist in Infotainment so presumably the connections are not installed.
