Right low beam not working

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have an issue with the Skoda Fabia of my wife (MK1, 2002) - the low beam on the right does not work any longer while the left one works fine. I tried already to change the bulb but this seems not to be the issue. To be sure I swapped the bulbs right-left and the left side kept working while the right does not function with the good bulb that worked on the left.

I continued with the fuses 50 and 54 - both seem fine, tryed swapping them and still only left side works. I tried to replace them with a new blue 15A fuse, but the issue seems not to be there - still left low beam working fine while the right one does not function. High beam,  position lights and direction (yellow bulb) are working fine on both sides.

Any ideas on what could be the issue? I think I should check the relays (which ones? are there separate ones left/right for the low beam?). Is the ground a common one for the right side low/high beams/position and signaling lights or separate ones?

Thank you for the help.

Don't think there are any relays for the dipped beam lights.

The right dipped beam seems to share an earth with the front right indicator, so if that's working (as you say) it can't be that.

If I were you I'd be poking a multimeter into the local connection (pin 1 of the 10-way light connector) to check if there's 12V there or not when the light should be on, then working back to the fuse to check there and so on.

Thanks Wino. I will try to dig into it with a multimeter ... I still think there should be some relay, at least that is what I understood of some electrical diagrams - I will check them better as well.

I has something similar on mine, but on passenger side. First symptom was bulb out. So I bought a new bulb, and tried to change it.  But bulb came back on ,so I left it. Sometime later bulb went out again, and on investigation, I found that holder had melted with heat of suspect bad contact. Cure -replace the plug . Might be worth seeing if you can remove the plug from the bulb. Mine  was fused solid.

From looking at Haynes,I'd agree with Wino- No relays in dip headlamp circuit. It's straight from the light switch to main/dip switch. Fuse involved is F54 ,fifth up from botton on middle row. It's a Blue coloured fuse ( 15A), which may/may not be BLEW( electrical Joke :wondering:) , but bEst checked on meter for continuity.

Thanks VWD, Mine is passanger side too - car registered in Belgium with left drive :) I will look into the possible fused holder as you suggested. As soon there will be a nice sun weekend I will investigate further - for the moment I use it very little and prefer not working on it while raining.
