Overboots Condition

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have Skoda Octavia MkII TDI, 130k millage.

I got the P0234 error and the engine light eliminating. I have fitted the AA car geni ODB2 dongle and the mobile app says: " we have spotted a problem in the electrical circuit which monitors the turbo pressure so your fuel consumption may increase and exhaust emissions will be affected". The light turned on when I was pressing the accelerator hard in merging into the motorway. The car is running as before and I was wondering if it is a serious problem and I need to take it to a garage asap?

Thanks for Help in advance

As it will as you accelerate

Use the Ross-Tech Wicki pages to search for the cause of a fault code.

Here is the page for your fault code:-

My guess is that the variable vanes in the turbo are getting stuck due to carbon build up.

If so, stopping the engine and restarting will clear the fault light and restore power until you next want high torque at moderate speed, such as putting your foot down to overtake, climb a hill, accelerate hard when joining traffic.

Solutions are to have the turbo cleaned mechanically, use chemicals to provide a temporary fix (search for Mr Muscle treatment) or replace the turbo with an exchange or new unit. The later choice of exchange or new is probably best with your mileage.

Thanks Pikpilot for your advices.

Same fault on mine was vacuum hoses broken leading to the N75 boost control valve, worth checking none have split or come adrift before forking out for a new/exchange turbo.

better still check turbo linkage for free movement if OK apply vac at the control valve end of it's vac line and re check for movement (may be a leak in line or turbo actuator diaphram)

Thanks All for your reply, I also find the attached picture from Turbo Rebuild useful.

Did I miss something on their chart? Variable vane turbo mechanism sticking.

I agree with the other two posters above that you should check those possibilities too.

Good garages will have a handheld pump for vacuum (and pressure) testing which they can use to check rubber hoses and operation of the variable vane link arm for full movement.
