Some advice please - fl tsi issues

Featured Replies

Apologies if this isn't that coherant, but I felt I needed to put this down somewhere and maybe get some advice.

I recently got my mk2 fl and I've been fairly happy with it. Fitted some Cross Climates and had 4 wheel alignment.

Long story short, have dropped it at a VW specialist and there's a list of stuff wrong with it after it misbehaved on the weekend.

I'm trying to figure out if it's more economical to keep or just take the loss on the chin.

115k miles on the clock. DSG is smooth in gear changes but a bit hesitant setting off.

PCV needs replacement

fuel filter and if that doesn't fix one of my issues - fuel line and pump examination

Chain rattle - £45 to do an oil pressure check and they'll go from there.

Oil leak (unknown source to be checked but it'll cost me an hour of labour)

advised on brake disks - I'll probably be ok as I hardly ever use the car.

lower boost pipe seal

I've wanted the gearbox checked for slippage but they're reluctant to do so until the PCV and issue related to fuelling are taken care of (smelt a bit funny after thrashing it about a bit).

I've been advised if the chain is knackered it'll cost a lot to replace but awaiting a potential quote. Made sure to request chain, tensioner, guide and cover, but they get the idea.

If I put the car up as is - I'm liable to lose about £1.5k on it.

If i get the diagnostics and basic fixes done - I'm looking at spending a further 400ish, with most stuff - 2k... and if it's the clutch - I guess 3k.

I'm worried about potentially throwing good money after bad.

2k out of pocket with nothing to show or 6.5k, possibly more, out of pocket if the clutch needs work but I'll have the RS (still got my old motor so not like I'll be car less).

The VRS ticks a lot of boxes for me, but I still worry. I guess there's the issues with intakes coking up too.

Thoughts please? Fix, partial fix and further diagnosis or just ditch it?

Im drawing myself to the comment 'advised on brake disks - I'll probably be ok as I hardly ever use the car' - Brakes are an important part of the car to m,e, but if your hardly going to use then is there any point in a 2nd car?

Given that the car passed its MOT and has covered hardly any mileage since then I don't think it's the most urgent thing to do, but I agree breaks need doing. It still brakes sharply and I have to be quite gentle on the peddle.

2nd car-wise, I've been quite busy and haven't had the chance to advertise my old one properly. It was more a consideration of keeping the old one instead of the new one.
