Battery replacement - radio code required?

Featured Replies

I'm likely to be changing the battery on my Octavia mk2, will I need a radio code or does the radio work after just swapping the battery without having to put in a code? It will literally be disconnect and reconnect the new battery in a matter of moments.

Many thanks.

It should retain the code mine did when i changed the battery, but i wouldn't do that now as i had some issues doing that

i use a battery backup connected to the obd socket to keep the electrics live now but be careful as the battery positive

connection will be "live", if you don't have one you could use jump leads and a spare battery to keep the electrics live.

Provided it is the original fit radio, the radio is coded to the ecu. So it will recode itself automatically and no external code is necessary.

It will ask for the code if the radio was off before removing the battery and you switch the radio on again before switching on the ignition.

The correct procedure is to switch the ignition on first  before touching the radio and it will automatically find the code stored on the dash panel. This works whether the radio was previously on or off.

Yes I have had it where it asked for the code and I tried with all the numbers that were written on the service book etc and it finally locked out, or so I thought, - because leaving it alone it sorted itself out and worked.

Now I ignore any requests for a code and just wait and let it do its stuff and it always does.
