Brown on pin 3 is earth, black/yellow on pin 4 is reversing light.

Might well upset the BCM by doing it though.

Others that have tried this approach have found black lines running up and down the picture due to rf interference.

The solution is to use a small relay connected to the reversing light wire that then switches a clean 12V supply from another source to the revering camera.

Do you have any pics of this set up and the location used for the relay?

Which stereo have you got?

I found that on my aftermarket Android stereo it has a 12v+ reverse signal. And since I have to run the video cable to the front (via the headlining) it wasn't any extra work to run an extra cable and connect this to the 12v at the stereo.

It's also a "clean" signal with no interference etc.

I would just hold off then. It's very likely that it will have a 12v feed that becomes live in reverse gear.

If it comes with a can bus decoder then it should have this function.

It just saves a load of hassle of tapping into wires and using relays etc.

Have you sorted out your DAB antenna yet?

The Car is an ex RRV - keeping a bit of the house 12v system to use when biking with my lad. So I have these that I’m looking to wire for GPS and DAB - will need to change at least one SMA terminal for the DAB USB which came with the stick on antenna. The antennae also have the N Type coax which needs to be rewired to run a signal to a 4g router. All in hold until head unit arrives to determine if it’s all going to fit behind the dash.

Ok. Are they dedicated GPS and DAB aerials then? Or passive?

So long as the aerial doesn't have a filter or amplifier in it then it should work for DAB.

The window mount that my USB DAB receiver came with was appauling and barely worked.

I’m not expecting much from the dab Antenna. The online specs for antennae for Tetra setups don’t stipulate passive and I can’t tell from looking at them. Going to be trial and error and a hunch that the ambulance system would’ve had some form of GPS linked to either of them. There was also a glass mount tucked away on the new a pillar but there’s no info and what and where things were connected to.

Well if it doesn't work out I can highly recommend the Alpine KAE-DAB1G6 kit.

It replaces the amplifier for the rear side window antenna for a passive one.

Then has an active amplifier that sits behind the stereo and splits the signal into AM/FM and DAB.

Signal is crystal clear and no need to run new wires from the back of the car.

And yup wires worked out ok and head unit is in but this is the rear view .... any thoughts anyone?

Engine off - bad vibes when on!

Did you pick up the reverse signal from the reverse light?

Is there any reverse signal wire on the stereo loom?

Actually. Looking at the listing it doesn't come with a canbus decoder. Is that correct?

In which case it won't have a reverse signal wire.

You'll need to use a relay in that case then and use the reverse light as the trigger for the relay.

It’s got the reverse wire in the media unit - I think I need to redo my connections and also check the extension cable join - it’s crystal

clear when the engines off!

For completness, bought a cheap rectifier from Amazon and no interference

I’m having the same issue.
initially was under the impression as a can-bus unit is attached wouldn’t need to attach a power source at the rear. Only attached to a 12v power cable behind the unit and do not get signal. so need to connect to reversing light. Hope that works.

This is incorrect as I discovered. The correct wire for the reverse light is black/blue on pin 2. Using the black/yellow caused the relay I used to buzz incessantly when the lights were on, only stopping when the brakes were applied.
Just a warning for anyone who wants to hook up a reverse camera trigger.

Thanks, but there seem to be multiple versions of the wiring, which I clearly didn't realise at the time. One that I looked at, on page 109/21 of the Octavia2 from May 2007> does indeed show it as what I wrote. Shame I didn't check for other, different versions.

Thanks for responding. All good.
It’s a bit of a pain when there’s no consistency with this stuff. My Octavia RS wagon/combi is a 2011 so I presume that wiring colours changed over time. Not helpful when you’re trying to hook up a reverse camera properly. I’m just happy that I got it right in the end. Quite the head-scratcher.
Cheers, Michael.
