Thank you very much!!!

I've not had stuck gear issues but coincidentally did have some issue this morning, went to do 3 point turn outside my drive and ended up temporarily stuck in 1st with someone waiting to get past :D

Is it defintely worth me doing the same v likely to be same with my 56 BLT ? In the past I did the gear reset procedure but sounds more likely to be this as it never went away permanently......never really noticed the while though

Having now had the 1) rad failure 2) 2x short wiring issues 3) header tank failure and countless other "known" faults I take the point of view nowadays we are all in for a pound :D

Might as well for the money.

Going for it. Thanks

My only next question comes down to potential for remap and replacing with the pd150 bolts to avoid head lift, which seem to be reading as a similar "might as well", but got to convince myself this is needed to "up to 200hp"

If you haven't blown the head gasket from head lift yet then replacing the bolts will pretty much guarantee it won't happen, a remap on the standard turbo is ~165 BHP, you need a new hybrid if you want 200.

I have a brand new replaced Mellet PD150 spec turbo on fabia from the failure some months ago, a bit better than std in terms of reliability, but its BLT already though 165hp isn't going to be massively noticeable IMO
Obviously its not making any improvement really at the moment other than replaced the faulty turbo.

Was hoping for closer to 185hp but well mapped not too spikey, apparently though in tuning I have had mentioned about care its not overspeed in how they go about doing the map......
would be interesting to know a little more, but hence with the high mileage and that fact would have to go with a very experiencing tuning like Oscarli I guess, they already told me £299. If I did then the head bolts will be factored in, thanks.

Ok back on topic, Gearbox shim

Well I struggled with this today, I couldn't get the circlip to seat.
Then I was worried I couldnt get the shims out to inspect ! In the end after a lot of ****ing about I finally did somehow manage to spin it and get it out, but wasn't easy.........it bounced out, but then seemed to split into 2 parts, which is a surprise as I'm sure I only put one shim in.

In hindsight I did not look to check for any already there, because I didn't expect this as the car is mine from new (56 BLT), and didn't see anything about it only applying to some cars this was needed?

I can only summarise 1 of 2 things, someone already did the shim mod ( or it was done automatically for the BLT OR someone did it on servicing as a bulletin).

- OR -

I was sent 2 of the shims stuck together in the packaging without noticing and it went into the car like this ??

There is definitely barely any play now, but actually I'm not sure there was before I took the circlip out....it was only after the circlip came out that I noticed it pushing back and forward play...so many the issues I had were not due to this....and perhaps the clutch etc instead

But, I haven't had any really stickiness of the gears since dabbling - yet. And seems reasonably tight. Will have to keep an eye.

Talk about mysterious......

Just a quick update the shim mod was very very easy quick and effective, I’ve got no issues since and very happy with it, when I took the plastic cap off to check the play it was crazy and after fitting the shim, the play was next to none. Slight play as I assume it should have. Thank you for the links and the video, job done and working done.

I’ve got the same problem guys. Have to ram the car into first gear, it’s been converted to a single mass. Just wondering if it could be the same issue? When I have time I’ll take the alloy and cap off and see if there’s play. Already watching shim mod kit on eBay just in case

You don’t have to “ram” it into 1st gear, drive with a bit of sympathy and double clutch it.

It doesn’t work when you double clutch it. Whether the car is moving or not, it won’t go in to first gear unless you push it in hard. Going slow (double clutching or not) it won’t go in
