Oil temperature 2.0 TDI CR 150 SE L

Featured Replies

What sort of maximum oil temperature would you expect to see on a normal motorway run?  Mine is hitting 109 whereas my previous TDI 170 never exceeded 103.

Was the car doing a regen for the DPF at the time?

I doubt it - it’s only done about 300 miles.

Engine is still tight. Should loosen up over the next couple of thousand.

Oh and check the oil level.

My 150TDI ran at those temps regularly, I dont think it is anything unusual or to worry about. Running on A roads etc it would settle around 103-105.

Interesting isnt it that now you have a oil temp reading you can start to worry about it; all those years without any idea of the enigine oil temps! I think modern cars give us far too much info these days.

Hah! When I started driving we had  a dial for oil pressure. You don’t get that now! ;)

The majority of people would carry on driving with a big red oil light on the dash so having an actual gauge to confuse them is a recipe for disaster.

As far as I can see there is no mention of the acceptable range in the manual (though I could have missed it) making the data pretty pointless!

My car ( Fabia III petrol ) would reach above 100 C within 2 miles from starting when new.

In the winter now it can take 6 miles to get to 90+ C.

Since oil boils at about 300 C I think that the temperature is fine. ;)

Diesels do if course warm up more slowly. Would be good to know the target maximum temp - it might boil at 300 but I’d be bothered if it got to half that!

I would suspect if the oil temperature got too hot then so would the water temperature.

This would set of warning lights/cooling fans anyway.

I haven't seen anything above 110 C on mine.
