Superb Mk III space saver spare

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I've just bought my first Skoda, and I love it! Superb Estate Sportline 190ps - I would like to get a space saver spare wheel for it as I think by removing the foam inserts in the boot space it will go in.

Anyone else done this / advise on where to get one?

Thank you

The space saver shouldn't require removing any inserts, unless the Sportline is different from my L&K 190 where the space saver fits fine "out of the box". If you mean putting a full-size spare in, have a search as there has been at least one thread on here about it. FYI my current Mk3 came with the space saver already supplied, but I got the space saver for my previous Mk2 from the dealer when I bought it - they did me a deal for £50. I believe the new cost would be c£100 from a dealer but worth checking around on the usual auction sites for something cheaper.

Thank you. Great help!

ill order one tomorrow.

@RocketWales

Do you mean the foam packing that the pump and gooo came in to stop them moving around?  If so then yes you should remove but the space saver and the tools will have some packing also.

Have look here

Hi Bud - thank you. The link takes me to an error page?

is it on Skoda parts?

Thanks for for your time

Sorry to hijack this thread guys, I'm still new to VAG vehicles,  to expand search options, will other VAG vehicles have same stud fitment as the superb? I too am seeking a skinny spare.

Thanks and again apologies RocketWales for the hijack.

Yes, MKI, MKII and MKIII Superb all use 5x112 PCD with a 57.1mm CB, as will the MKII and MKIII Octavia, Yeti, Karoq, Kodiaq.

Just check the tyre size is correct for your car

(The 220 and 280 TSi Superb need a minimum of 17” wheels to clear the front brakes, everything else needs a minimum of 16")

Gizmo, many thanks that's absolutely brilliant!!

And this for the space saver:

or for the border search capabilities:

Just one last question. I've looked where the spare should go and the foam insert has box sections and not ready for the wheel - I obviously need to buy a new foam configuration? Or is this what the space saver kit replaces?

Sorry to be a bit dumb on this

Thank you!

This kit replaces your current foam inserts:

Which then fits inside the spare wheel.

not exactly correct,
only 2.0 TSI 4x4 280ps has big size brakes -
340mm front and 310mm rear
all others have
310mm front and 228mm rear

moreover this thread is about spare wheel,
the best place to use it is rear axle, even when damaged front tire

what means spare wheel for all engines can be 16"

Good advice - so swap the back to the front if I get a puncture on the front just to get to a tyre shop

I'm trying to buy the wheel online from the link but there's no 'buy' button - anyone else ever had this issue?

as i wrote above focus also on size of tire
i weren't happy to drive ~80km distance at night with limited speed 70kmh without Cruise Control,
it's deactivated due different(5.3%) diameter of original spare tire,
replaced by full size, but not tested yet

According to Brembo, Mintex and ECP my (190 TDi) has 312mm front and 300mm rear (the only other option is 340mm front and 310mm rears, certainly no mention of 310mm front and 288mm rear for the S3)

Im sure 220 owners have already said theirs need 17’s on the front.

Personally if if you are going to stick to the 50MPH / 80KPH limit (for a space saver) then it makes little difference where the spare goes, also if you are changing the wheel at the side of the road the quicker you can do this the safer it will be for you.

Thank God i blew up rear, didn't had to mount twice(rear + front).
but doing it on the side of road half hour after midnight weren't best moments in my life :)
also that were first opinion in my 25y motoring

but from safety aspects maybe nighttime were better,
cause 80% less traffic and trucks were visible kilometer away

my 220ps has 17" standard alloys wheels and 16" metal spare,

i have changed just tire on the 16" metal spare wheel by bigger diameter rubber

Hi all - I've bought the space saver spare for my MkIII Superb, but I still need the screw/clamp to hold it securely in place - I can see a lot online that are just bolts with a large plastic holding plate - however, inside my boot looks like its a 'hook' style bolt needed.

Any help much appreciated.

Thank you

@RocketWales

You need this type of ‘screw'

Any reason why you went for a skinny space saver rather than the factory fit size of 205 55 16”?

After fitting them today I can 100% confirm that the 190 TDi uses 312mm front and 300mm rear discs.
