Intermittent starting problem any one able to help  mk2 2.0 vrs petrol 2006

A little more detail would get you better responses.

Does the engine turn over , is the battery flat , does it start with a bang or with 1 cylinder firing then another until they are all firing,  colour of exhaust smoke if any,  does it start easy all day after getting started ,  Is this a recent thing or been gradually getting worse . any thing been done to the engine etc lately  when last serviced if known . ?

Hi, the lady I’m buying it from says it’s a intermittent start she had ecu checked and that’s fine she says it mainly happens in the morning , it turns just got to keep trying , car looks well loved it was her husbands who died :( , it had a mayor service in June and passed it’s not in January with no  advisories I’ve been looking on google people mention 106 relay but I don’t think it’s got that as it’s petrol , it’s done 74k and has lots of papers which I’ll look at today , I havnt gave her the money yet but agreed on it ,

thank you

Has the battery been replaced? Batteries seem to last 6-7 years on average and this car is now about 12-13 so it could be about due for another.

I'm thinking early in the morning is when the battery is likely to be at its coldest and might show issues it doesn't when it's warm.

Can you find someone near you in the VCDS section of the forum who could scan the car for recorded faults so you could post the scan here?

If it's a complete failure to start, it could also be something like the MAF or crank sensor having become intermittent.

Hi so I picked the car up yesterday , got 200meters down the road it felt so rough got to the junction and stalled try to start it again n it didn’t start it tried and tried but wasn’t having it , push back to a safe place got a bloke to come out and he put it on his Diagnostic machine 14 faults come up ! Non really retaliating ,he reset it and it drove smooth for about a few miles parked it up and left it ...

Also noticed to noticed today hardly no oil in it ! Don’t think it would have anything to do with it

The battery is new and the ecu been checked and is working fine
