GB car sticker legal in case of brex**it?

Featured Replies

I know this is very trivial, but we are driving out on 28.3.19 and - yes sadly - coming back after a potential brexit. I have ordered my green card and have read - all still very speculative even on official uk government sites - that I MAY need a gb sticker on the car or number plate. I have always hated these big stickers that ruin the look and paint of any car. I found some stickers like the ones below and people claim they would be legal and fulfil requirements. Can anyone tell whether this is correct.

PS

And without wanting to start another thread on Brexit I would like to see some of the benefit promised by brexit supporters. So far this has only cost me money because sadly I do not have billions of pounds to shift abroad - like some famous brexit supporters. But I guess it is for the greater good.

i thought we needed a country identifier anyway (regardless of Brexit or not) ?

I wasn't sure, so the last 2 summers when we drove in the Netherlands, I've had a magnetic GB badge slapped on the back of the car - and it came off again with no ill-effects each time.

Exactly.

£1.99 delivered from Amazon etc.  & All the way from China.

Possibly quite a bit more plus postage from someplace in the UK / EU.

EDIT.  My bad.

£1.09 on another Auction site.  Free postage, by next week.

My understanding is that reg plates that have a $nation block on the end are only legal (for UK in rest of EU, and for rest of EU over here too) whilst the UK remains in the EU. After that the law will require:-

  1. UK vehicles to have plates with no $nation block on them.
  2. UK vehicles traveling in EU to carry an ISO GB plate (or an "ecosse" one for us Scots)
  3. Rest of EU vehicles in UK to carry an ISO $nation plate as well as the $nation block on the registration plate.

Similarly we will require an IDP and insurance green card abroad, and the EU will require them over here.

What is a iso GB plate or iso $nation plate. I have never this term before. Have you got any picture by any chance?

You can also get magnetic GB plates - I got some included with a set of headlamp beam adapters from Halfrauds last year.

I may have the wrong standards body, but it's the white oval one with the country code on it.

Will I fail an MOT if my car has got GB / EU blue circled stars on it if you say that that UK cars will have plate without nation name on them?

Is that another expense for nothing?

Not if the DfT / DVSA have not changed UK MOT's and they have not done.

They do not even know if the UK is leaving the EU.

They are perfectly legal at the moment until Brexit has been resolved. If we still leave then you will need a separate GB Sticker. Found it all on GBSticker.co.uk hope this helps
